I mean, I like some of their flyers, but orks are just such piss-poor shots that it seems like it isn't even necessary to use flyers to take out enemy flyers - even those who get the added 'accuracy bonus' are pretty much just snap firing.

Thoughts?

Lootas and Dakkajets are great units in general.

The fact that they're pretty good AA is just a bonus.

Why bring anti-fliers? We have our own lovely Flyboyz that regularly make mincemeat and scrap metal out of them, and their buddies on the ground. WAAAGH!

Lootas are awsome anit fliers. I get between 10-30 shots per mob. The dakka jets are great too. 9 TL shos, 18 TL shots when I use waaagh. Last game I played I took out 2 vendettas in one turn, it was great!

Cant really say anymore then whats been said. If youre facing a flyer build, try your hardest to go 2nd. Then come on and let the DAKKAjets do their business, and if its a really tough flyer, call a WAAAGH! and glance that bitch to death. Itll work.

Or go the IA route, as many of those units are now legal in regular 40k, you could take a squadron of Flakk Trukks. They are a bit pricey, but if youre facing a flyer heavy force, 3 trukks per squadron with quad guns would do the trick Id imagine

I never doubted that orks could do it.

It just seems like orks are one of the only armies that can comfortably accept the fact that snap shots really ruin accuracy, since you really don't know what accuracy means if you play them.

Ork Artillery has gotten a lot better this edition.
A battery of Kannon shells, with ammo runts for re-rolls, can work nicely.

Volume of shots man, volume of shots
Once I had a DAKKAjet come on the table, and it lit up a landspeeder squadron and smoked one and F'ed up the other. On that player turn, he shot up my jet but I made my jink save, so my next shooting phase was at BS1. I called a WAAAGH! and even rerolling 6s, I still wiped an entire scout squad off the table

Orks are quantity over quality my friend. It doesn't matter if they need 5's to hit if they are throwing a pile of dice on the table.

Agreed, 1 trukk mob with all shootas, gets 23 shots. A x20 w/2 bigshootas gets 35 shoos and 6 bigshootas, or a x30 w/x3 bigshootas 51 shots and 9 bigshootas. Youre going to hit things with it. I run my Orks with shootas, on everything, and big shootas where I can stick em. I LOVE Ork shooting, I mow things down on a regular basis. Its nice to really soften up targets before diving headlong into combat.

Orks are actually quite good at AA. They where designed with a high volume of fire to compensate their poor BS, but when shooting flyers requires 6s anyway....

Let's just snap fire means nothing to them and Rockket buggies have downed more than one of my stormravens.

In my Footslogger list, I actually use an ADL with quad gun. I already got the ADL for my lootas to sit behind, and I figured a quad gun for my grots was too good to pass up

I would argue that orks are some of the best AA shooters in the game. As others have said, we deal with quantity of shots, not quality so snap shots arnt that big of a deal. Plus lootas are str 7 and can roll a bucket of dice at something. Since we have more shots, we have more chances to hit. Like if a tactical squad is shooting you have the chance to hit up to 10 shots. With orks, you can have the possibility of hitting up to 60. While EXTREMELY unlikely, the probability that you will hit more stuff than the marines or other shooting armies is there.

Plus our flyers arnt bad either.

for orks i would take the icarus lascannon every time. BS3 lascannon might not seem like much, but in an army with only a few expensive high str low ap long range weapons its gold.

Icarus is just a regular lascannon with skyfire, no? Or does it have a slight boost?

See, I really don't care about a lascannon in my list. Orks are still about volume of fire. 4 shots with skyfire and interceptor beat out a single s9 every time for my grots. Also, with lootas right there, as well, if the grots actually get killed, a loota just takes over manning the quad gun, firing at the same types of targets as the rest of the squad with no loss in firepower. If a loota takes over, and then you start rolling three shots per turn with your lootas, you will find that lascannon sorely lacking in performance compared to a quad gun.

Besides, I have plenty of pks and rokkits on the ground to deal with higher av value targets.

Yea I think Id just stick with the Quadgun. The extra shots and such are just the way its done. Id rather have a lower STR attacks with MORE attacks then trying my luck with 1 well placed higher STR shot. Perfect example, whats better for popping transports in a Tau army? Railgun? Or the Plasma dealy-o? on a Hammerhead

Heres a hint, its not the Railgun

Lootas, ADL, Quad Gun, 40pt grot squad. Lootas go to ground for 2+ cover, hit on 6's either way. Objective holding "heavy" squad. Works well.
