On a Canoptek Spyder's Waiting List

My friend and I are new to 6th edition. He got the Tau Battleforce. And I got the Necron Battleforce (plus an AnnihiBarge and Night Scythe).

He's a little more limited in points, so we're playing at about 650 - 700 - ish.

I was thinking of putting together this force just to get some exposure to some of the different Necron mechanics, but most importantly I want the game to be fun for both of us.

Overlord (Warscythe, Resurrection Orb)
Royal Court (Despair Tek {Veil of Darkness}, Destruct Tek {Solar Pulse})
15x Warriors
5x Warriors (Night Scythe)
AnnihiBarge

I'll stick all the IC's (Overlord, Despair Tek, Destruct Tek) with the big Warrior blob, and take a few pot shots with the Eldritch Lance. Once I get in range to Rapid Fire, that should be interesting. Then I can have some fun Veiling to another part of the board. The Barge will walk right along side the blob and keep plinking away. And the Night Scythe can harass anything he may keep on the back lines.

He'll probably have greater ranged firepower, so I'm hoping to have a mobility trick up my sleeve with the Veil, and the Night Scythe can help with that too.

Any suggestions?

You say you picked up the Necron Battleforce, so I would sub the Night Scythe for a Ghost Ark. The reason is that Tau have very few ways of dealing with a flier, especially at lower points levels, so if you want to keep things 'fair' while you are both learning, I'd leave the flyer out.

Agreed. The flier just complicates things and won't be very fair to your friend.

and not what the OP asked for.

if i where you I would leave out The flyer, especially because you want to play on a 4' by 4' Table and flyers need to move at least 18". You won't be able to use a flyer effective.

Another "vote" to drop the flier.

First off, if both of you are pretty new it's probably best to try and limit down the rules you need to know.

Second, considering he just has the Tau battleforce he's going to have a hard time running against the absolute best flyer in the game. Because your playing nice, shelve it.

The tau battleforce can't kill the barge nor the flier, drop both or let him take something extra that's anti tank.

If he had a hammerhead upgrade sprue, he could fight no problem against everything but the flier.

He needs a broadside + the battleforce for this to be fair.

Also, add a vote in to drop the scythe.

Get him a broadside and it'll give some anti tank. It'll be a pretty shooty match though, may want to add a little bit more melée potential somewhere along the line-flayed ones (old school good models or fabulouscast, your choice), lychguard or praetorians might be cool. And he could get... Well, Kroot.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
