Hey guys,

I'm looking to add multiple Land Speeders to my C:SM and BA armies, and wanted to know whether the prevailing wisdom was to run them as squadrons, or singular, taking up multiple FOC slots? My usual lists would allow me to go with either option as I have a lack of Fast Attack as it is.

Squadrons will give away less kill points (I think? could be wrong - still learning 6th ), but need to be kept together, whereas singular are probably more fragile, but can go after individual targets easier, or take different routes to maximise cover.

For context, the load-outs will most likely be 2x 2 HF, and 1x 2 MM.

Opinions?

Squad advantages : Less killl points (1/6 missions)
can juggle hull points (using 6th ed wounding from the front)
take up less FOC slots

Disadvantages :
Indiviudal targeting
dont need to stick together
hits on the first speeder will not overflow to the second one

Overall I would go for singular, but its not a massive disadvantage if you need to squad due to FOC

Current Army: Death Korp of Krieg
Armies I have played:
Necrons
Space Marines (Ice Lords)
Death Guard

Squadron rules got better in the 6th ed. You could go each route and it should be fine.

My personal thought is that it should be as split as your FoC can afford.
Once the FoC runs out, you start squadding.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

If this is a question, you clearly don't have enough Land Speeders. Get more.

It also has a lot to do with what types of LS you are running.

melta? Single, always
Dakka with 2 HBs? or a HB and assault cannon, could go either way.

But in general you have more flexibility going each in their own slot.

if you squad them together you must shoot at the same targets so typhoons become much less effective. Also forcing your opponent to have more targets to attack to shoot at is a good strategy if you have the FOC to spare. Personally if I have the room I run as many squadrons as possible to maximize potential target saturation

Agreed. At the moment it's just 3, but if they perform well I'll be adding another 3

I'm currently leaning towards having the 2 Heavy Flamer speeders in a squad, and the Melta on its own. The plan being the Flamers will swoop down and incinerate whole squads at a time. There are quite a few Necron, Guard, and Cultist-Heavy Chaos armies locally, where massed templates will be devastating. Even against the Marines/MEQ, forcing lots of saves is a good plan of attack.

While my opponent is trying to take out the squad-hunters, the Melta will work its way forward to take out the heavy armour/MCs/ICs.

I would keep flamer/HB together if squadding. I like having typhoon in the back lighting up gak personally. or of course theres always the MM suicide speeder to pop land raiders. its really up to you but magnet your guns for sure so you can switch it up and see what works for you.
