With the arrival of the new CSM Codex, has there been any increase in love for the Possessed Marines? In the previous 'dex they were far from competitive, having a poor chance of getting a good result on their table, but with the newer rules, you have a much better mutation table, as well as the ability to take marks for the unit. For 145pts, you can get 5 Possessed with MoK, giving you 4 S5 attacks on the charge, with the ability to add Furious Charge for a small points increase.

While I love the models, I've always struggled to find even a semi-competitive use for them. Have people discovered any use for them in the new ruleset?

I love them - they look good and I can stick them with Lucius. They lose fleet because of him, but at least it's an assault squad he can lead.
They get a fair amount of attacks, so they hurt when they hit. I give them the mark of slaanesh as I like the I buff and then they get the slaanesh standard. It works out horribly priced, but I get
3+/5++/5+

That's power armour, daemon save and FNP.

It's just a shame there are better/more cost efficient choices as well.

Its because ordinance is still a word.
However, firing ordinance at someone isn't nearly as threatening as firing ordnance at someone.
Ordinance is a local law, or bill, or other form of legislation.
Ordnance is high caliber explosives.
No 'I' in ordnance.
Don't drown the enemy in legislation, drown them in explosives.

When you can get two vanilla CSM for each possessed, it is not a hard choice. Yes the possessed are better in melee, but shooting is king in 6th. The bolters alone are enough to make the decision, outside of fluff reasons.

I suggest you don't believe anything posted by thedarkavenger unless confirmed by other regular posters here at Dakka. He has shown he is incapable of basic English comprehension.

No possessed are terrible
Warp Talons are almost completely better. For 4 points you get the jump pack, shred AND AP3 instead of just 1 or none and you get. You lose fearless but still, when another subpar unit is that much better than possessed it means possessed are terrible.

Put 10 in a Land Raider. They have an incredible threat radius with move 6", disembark 6" and 2d6" charge with rerolls. I like them better than most things in the chaos book in assault because they can go toe to toe with almost anything.

Try this.

HQ - Huron
EL - 10 Possessed with mark of khorne
HV - 3 Nurgle Oblits
HV - 3 Nurgle Oblits
HV - Land Raider

Roll for Hurons Infiltrate ability and put the two units of Oblits into super threatening position on the enemy. This will draw the heavy weapons away from the Land raider who can zoom up the board for a turn 2 assault by the Possessed.

They may have a good charge range, but adding the LR makes it even more expensive, and sadly they aren't that good on CC, even assuming they get the AP3 bonus, they are really expensive they can't really go toe to toe with the specialized assault units, like say terminators, bikers or banshees which are also cheaper for what they do :/. The new models are cool and I actually own 10 who have rarely see any action.

This. A few possessed arms here and there really can make a squad look a lot cooler.

I take possessed two different ways.

The first is MOK with the IOW, so not only are they str 6 on the charge, but they can re-roll the charge distance. Then, I like to add them to a landraider or add an unmarker sorcerer and roll a few times on biomancy.

The second is MOT, because a 4++ is funny.

MOS has it's boons, like being able to take FNP, and nurgle is always a good idea.

They need to be treated as a unit designed to kill MEQ but not TEQ, they also do a number on MEQ monsterous creatures.

I run them often, and they either always deliver, or soak all the fire so the rest of my army can get killin.
