Hello,
Currently I am running 1-2 trygons in my army but I am never sure wheter I should DS them or not. DS lets you get close to enemy without any risks, but you can't assault till turn 3. Deploying gives you more MCs on table and puts more pressure on the oppononent. Also, since trygon have fleet he can get to enemy pretty quickly so they possibly will take fire off Hive Tyrants and Tervigons etc.
So what do you think: Should Trygons be DS or not or is it too dependant on situation to decide now?

I personally prefer to keep my Trygons on the table and run them at my opponent. I also really like the model and so I like to have it doing things for as many turns as possible =P

I'd run them at the enemy, if nothing else it will protect your tervigons

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum.

Deep striking means you land in no-mans land to be shot at by an army and you don't know when they arrive...

For that reason I like running them up the field with some FNP or psychic powers like that cast on them if I can, going through cover and stuff.

Remember a Trygon Prime is a character so he can precision strike the champion power fist guys ^^

I've only run mine in DS mode so far, first game they were amazing, coming in with Doom of Malatai and hitting the army at the same time as my Flyrants.

I would consider running them on the table as well, they're pretty quick with fleet. It's situational I guess.

I was thinking about using one in tandem with a Mawloc to pinch other units to death, big vehicles etc, pop the Tyrgon up on once side and the Mawloc out the other so the unit can't move out of the way.

If you have units in range to support the Trygon when he comes into play, then it can be a nasty combo, but in general I would say walking him up field would be best. Either way he is going to draw attention and lots of fire.

I have done both, and after a number of games I almost always walk them up the field with FNP. They soak up so much fire and with FNP they generally get into combat with at least 1 wound left (Remember they have Fleet!)

Tunneling Trygon

I run 2 lists - one a mainly foot list where the trygons start on table and march forward in a huge mass with everything else. The second has 4 mycetic spore units in and I do try to DS the trygons in this one. Problem is that, unlike the mycetic spores, they do scatter and that trygon base has a huge footprint. There is often little option as to where to DS them - last game I scattered and went back into reserves twice with one trygon and he didn't come in proper until T6 when it was too late.

That's why I think it's just better to run Mawlocs if you want to have that big surprise attack from reserves.

I have a Trygon and Mawloc and run them in DS with either a Hive Commander or Swarmlord. Works great. Normally pair with Warriors with DS/VC/ST in reserve and a 30 man Termgant squad if I can.

DS with doom. They will more than likely focus fire the doom until he is splattered across the battlefield. By that time your trygons should live to see another turn.
