I freaking love what they did with the Necron Codex! Feth yea! They desperately needed an update. they needed more stuff, especially vehicles. and they made it so that the Necrons could be viewed as good guys (trying to reunite the dynasties, compared to killing all life).
but there were some things i was not pleased with. for example, i HATE the new wraith's looks! It looked more epic the way it was! now it looks like a fething BEETLE!!! I think thats it for my rage for now. ill find more stuff later lol

yes! Im not alone!! but i remembered another thing that i didnt like. they took out the Pariahs. IMO, those were the most awesome units that the Necrons had (next to da Monolith)

While I do like the New Necrons quite a bit, I've been playing for a while. I really did like the old style they had. In fact, it was what attracted me to the game in the first place.
The new codex is fantastic, though. Glad to see another Necron player!

I like most of it. I just don't like the ridiculously absurd things.
Also, the old Destroyers looked really dumb. Now they look a bit better, so that cancels out the odd Wraith look, which I think better fits the Newcrons.
And yeah, the Canoptek stuff looks really insectoid now.
As for the fluff, I like to combine the two. Necrontyr were frail, then got better, then so on so forth. It makes sense, to me at least.

Hate the new fluff. I liked how the necron were that one big mystery of the 40k universe. They really added some horror to the universe. But now they're just space Egyptians. I do like the new models though. The necrons a really needed some new options.

Destroyers are exactly the same kit/look that they have had since the last dex....
I'm one of the few that actually enjoys the new fluff. I really like the fleshed out Necrons more. To me, it's much better than codex: C'tan and friends, which is what the 3rd dex really was. This one is actually Codex: Necrons.
As for the new models, I like almost all of them. The Tomb Blades are really the only ones that I don't care for.

I do not really care for the Necrons anyway old or new, but the only thing I can't stand at all is the thing that happened to the C'tan. I liked the whole 'God of the Stars'-thing and now they are just slaves? Also they let so many gaps open in this whole case that it isn't even funny anymore. Where did the Necrons get the power to shatter the C'tans? Is the fluff of the Void Dragon still the same or was he shattered too? What happened to the Outsider or is the movement of the Leviathan now completely as it was supposed to be?
The only thing I find interesting and appealing is the Canoptech stuff. The vehicles look a bit strange and all the Drivers look glued on and do not fit to the black monolith-style at all. The new infantry looks way too Tomb King for my taste. That leaves only the Canoptech Constructs which i actually find pretty nice
But after all I think they really needed the redesign but I'm not that happy how it turned out.

I think the Necrons just used the C'tan's gifts against them. The C'tan gave them the ability to kill gods, the Old Ones, but the Necrons used it to kill the other gods they didn't like.

Okay, I thought something had just come up. But I suppose one year in GW terms is a really short amount of time.

Now Codex: Poke'cron I for one don't mind the new fluff but would of rather seen them kept more vague. like not giving them names instead of stuff like imhotek (oh god) and there canoptic stuff looks awesome. (expect the forgeworld dragonfly (rule and model wise))

I really never did understand the hate towards the new fluff. Mostly because the old fluff could have fit into the blank spaces on a take out menu. Mindless and souless robots from ancient times come and murder things. Now that they actually have a look and feel about them it seems more interesting.
And yes, I know, Tomb Kings in Space. But what did you expect? It's an Earth based company. Of course they are going to use Earth based customs and art designs.
Personally I have more of a problem with the stereotypical stuck up elves and Scottish dwarves.
|
I'm expecting an Imperial Knights supplement dedicated to GW's loyalist apologetics. Codex: White Knights "In the grim dark future, everything is fine."
"The argument is that we have to do this or we will, bit by bit,
lose everything that we hold dear, everything that keeps the business going. Our crops will wither, our children will die piteous
deaths and the sun will be swept from the sky."

I don't kid myself into thinking they are super awesome as a table unit, but I can't help but field them. They are such a neat fluff unit and are still fairly good.
That said, I do enjoy the newcrons. I've been a 'cron player since just shortly after their old codex. I enjoyed them as mysterious robots from deep space, and I feel like the new dex works with that. I mean, for the most part, minus Trazyn's shenanigans, the Necrons are still the mysterious robots from deep space from the standpoint of basically every other race. They are like that freaky family that has kids at every elementary school. From the outside, the McPoyles/O'Doyles are freaky and mysterious, yet once you see them from the inside, you see that there is a hierarchy and story involved.

The necrons are like the McPoyles...haha. I have never really been a fan of the necron look or feel, but now, I don't think I will ever play Necron. Hilarious comparison though. The necrons are the weird socially awkward and misunderstand race of the galaxy that nobody can relate to. Except that they blow planets up with high powered gauss weaponry.

I'm also a fan of the new Necrons. The Old Fluff wasn't bad, but it was really just dull and lacked character other than "evil space robots". Apart from the names, I never really got the whole Egyptian thing, it's more a mix of Greek and Roman culture.

The Egyptian imagery stems from the fact that they almost seemed anachronistic in their technology advancement. In the ancient world, almost every culture was bumbling about like beavers with no teeth, whereas the Egyptians were building things that would remain technologically impressive well into the 19th and 20th centuries. They were kind of an Oasis of intellect in a sea of absolute morons......except their neighbors. Over time, their neighbors (MESOPOTAMIA!) became very interesting to the Egyptians and it wasn't long before war broke out and hilarity ensued. Moreover, Egyptian royalty was like an episode of MTV Real World. Take a bunch of half-insane and fully inbred aristocrats, give them armies of massive size, and then tell them the other one is plotting against them and watch what happens. That was the Egyptians pretty much. And looking at the Necrons, it's them too. Plus, as has always been the case, 40k is HEAVILY influenced by Lovecraftian Mythos. Anyone of you who didn't do your homework in HS and instead read H.P.s stuff instead would remember a little Egyptian bloke by the name of Nyarlathotep. Nyarlathotep was one of the Outer gods, a being of extraterrestrial origin. He shows up one day and no one really knows what to make of him. Think Nikola Tesla if he were a Psyker instead of a scientist. The dude is shooting lightning from his hands and doing all kinds of scientific demonstrations that utterly baffle anyone that tries to make any logical sense of them. By all accounts, Nyarlathotep has friggin' finished Science. Done. Fin. Fade to black and roll the credits. He's classy. He's smart. And most of all, HE'S OLDER THAN ANYONE CAN POSSIBLE IMAGINE....and he's showed up randomly out of the desert. Necrons are robotic Nikola Teslas/Nyarlathoteps. So that's why Necrons are Egyptian murderbots.

Where did the Necrons get the power to shatter the C'tans?
From the C'Tan.
Is the fluff of the Void Dragon still the same or was he shattered too?
It's not spelled out, though it is implied that a shard of the Void Dragon is entombed on Mars, as even the Emperor would not have been able to defeat it, single-handedly, had it been whole, and because Necron armies in the modern era can carry a C'Tan shard that has the Void Dragon's mastery of technology powers. Of course, there could have been another C'Tan shard that had those same powers but, come on.
What happened to the Outsider or is the movement of the Leviathan now completely as it was supposed to be?
The Outsider, or at least a significant chunk of it, is trapped in a Dyson Sphere. This does not mean that a shard of it could not be influencing the Hive Fleets. So... a mix of both.

I do enjoy the codex on the Table top, the rules and models are fantastic and have a fair bit of variety.
Playing as the Necrons on Dawn of War got me into the story of 40k, I was really taken aback by their story. 40k is all about the Grim Darkness and the 3rd Edition Necron codex was certainly its peak. A race of ancient aliens that hate existence, trapped inside machines and enslaved to the Star Gods who want to feast on all life. They were a treat to the material realty and the Warp.
I think its the new motive of the Necrons that fails to excite me, they are no longer Aliens in my mind, they have become too human.
Rebuilding their old empire. *yawn* Why would undead robots want an Empire? Build more tomb worlds? Boss about slaves? Collect resources? Return to being mortal?
While they certainly needed the fluff expanded the way it was done was really poor and felt like a copy and paste from the Tomb Kings.

I agreed with his post that NewCrons are bad when compared to OldCrons ( when it comes to fluff ).
And I added that NewCrons are jokes when compared to OldCrons.
Did I made this easier for you to understand now?
