know any effective anti sniper tactics?

cause i know they can be a real thorn in the side in battles what with picking off all of your hq's and all.

Honestly; snipers shouldn't be that much of a threat.

But if you started by telling us what army you run, that'd help us help you.

ditto snipers shouldn't be a problem for you, unless your opponent has like 2 or 3 squads of snipers... You can assault them with minimal effort in turn 2 or 3, in which case CC usually begins anyway so your HQ's shouldn't be getting shot at anymore.

its just when i play against a friend he has quite a narrow gaming table and he sticks his snipers right at the end of the table so i have to go through all his termies (deathwing army i think) to get at the snipers.

But...they're snipers. For them to have any real effect, he has to roll 6s on 6s. That's pretty uncommon.

What army do you run? You're not giving a lot of information for us to help.

This may be your problem. Regulation table size is 6'x4'. Sometimes I play on a smaller board, but only at <1000 points. Sounds like your friend is leveraging an unfair advantage against you!

If snipers are really bothering you somehow, go for weapons that ignore cover saves, bring LOTS of shots, or can get into close combat easily.

Tanks are usually pretty effective anti-sniper platforms. Or there is the old soviet standby of using a handy shilka to cut the building they are in in half...

Just ignore them. The snipers are doing less damage than every other unit in his army, so just roll your armor saves and focus on killing the things that matter.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Your a necron player. You have a LOS roll, followed by an armor or cover save, and then still a re-animation roll.

If it is still an issue, simply block LOS to the character so they can't kill him.

Baal predators and HI dreadknights are both very effective against snipers. But if you don't play either of those armies I am sure there are other options but they really shouldn't be too much of a problem.

infiltrate some troops in your opponent side of the table with some flamer weapon and toast then , my cousin used to play with my ultramarine 4th company with scouts and assault marines versus my 2th company and they would cause some trouble by precision killing my cc updated marines . next game i drop a dreadnought with a HF and toast then , the other i infiltrate some tacticals (with Sicarius abilities) and made short work of then.

No sniper wounds MEQ on 2's except for the Vindicare.

The only snipers I like/worry about is a squad with Telion, his precision shot goodness is fun to play around with.

Things that hurt them, all depends on the army you play. If you play marines, flamer, whirlwhinds and Sternguard will take care of them.

BUT

as others have stated, don't worry about the snipers.....bring more AP2 weapons to deal with the terminators, as those should be higher on your priority list.

Thats not true CaptainGrey, necron deathmarks have a special ability where they can wound one unit on 2+ in the enemy army with their sniper rifles.

Also tau do not have snipers, their sniper drones are heavy weapons and cannot make precision shots.

Eldar snipers are nasty, but they dont ignore look out sir.

Whilst the tau snipers aren't true snipers and never have ap 1 or 2 they do wound meq on 2s. On the subject though i dont think you need worry about snipers too much hell id rather face sniper spam than most special weapons.

Eldar snipers get AP1 on 6s, or 5-6s if upgraded.

My way of dealing with snipers is Outflank.
Drop a squadron of war walkers next to them.
Or a SM Scout squad, with or without a LS Storm.

Until they come on, keep out of range or line-of-sight.
