Anyone tried this? I downloaded the beta the other night. It's a free MMOFPS from the guys that make Eve Online, and it's tied into the eve world somehow.. dunno enough about that game though.. but, seems kinda fun so far. Of course they want you to use real money to buy all the cool gear, but you can get good stuff yourself just playing normal.

Been playing it off and on and yeah, it's fairly good. Bloody annoying at times though. Some have been playing since way before open beta and they are amazing .. if RAGE INDUCING.

Yeah the good thing is that you don't have to spend real cash to get awesome stuff.

My first character is a bit bash with a terrible K/D ratio so I am going to start again now that I know a bit more about how the game is played and how the upgrading works.

I started 1 character that I messed up, then made a new one to focus on being a sniper.. but it's gonna take forever to get the sniper skill maxed anytime soon.. I need like 300K skill points. And I only make like 4k per match.

Or is it supposed to be more gradual where you get all level 1 skills, and slowly raise all of them? And you eventually start making more per match? I got level 4 for my sniper skill but I really don't notice any difference in my gun or anything at all...

I just leveled up a load of stuff which seemed to be a good idea for the Assault guy I was playing, but proved to not be the case so need to start again.

I'd leveled up a few things to 1 so I could get other bits but didn't notice much either. I think it's a case of leveling it up hugely to make a difference, but don't hold me to that.

One of of the most important things I am going to level up is the radar thing, so many times I've been killed by someone not showing up/

It ties into the EVE online universe in real-time, battles are created by EVE players wanting to take control of planets, then you are able to request orbital bombardments etc from the EVE players in orbit above the planet, which they have to do in real time in EVE online...

Sounds kinda cool.. but I doubt I'd get into Eve online at all.. I don't even know how I'd be able to join a corp since I don't and won't ever have a mic. Just not my thing. Seems to be a requirement they all have though...

Getting the hang of things now, I bought a couple of low level skills I probably won't use but it's not that big of a deal, didn't spend that much on them. I got some basic scout armor, trying to train up to get the galente scout armor. I got level 1 for the skill and got all excited, then saw that I need to get it to level 2 :( I broke down and spent $20 so I could buy the SP boosters. Actually had a few games last night where my kills were higher than my deaths. I mostly just play on the skirmish game though, ambush annoys me.. I dunno if it's full of spawn campers, or if the game is just stupid and makes you spawn right in front of enemies all the time

Apparently I hit the XP cap already.. I didn't even play all that much.. maybe 3 or 4 matches a night. I went from getting around 8000xp per match to 800. Bah!

I'm better with the sniper class but I don't want to be a sniper, I want to be an assault guy. But everyone I run into is well more kitted out than I am and I die so much I've never really played this sort of game before and it's kinda hard to know what to kit out most. I'm trying to boost up my scanner at the minute but I don't seem to be able to do that even though I have the prerequisites. It's awfully confusing to me.

yeah the SP cap just seems like a lame bandaid fix to me. Easier to make a cap than to actually balance the matchmaking so that noobs fight noobs and vets fight vets.

That I would really like, with the ever increasing sp though how would they do that?

most games do it by kill/deaht ratio and/or win ratio

Yeah, that would make more sense, I got stuck on the SP train there.

Its crazy madness that this isn't a PC game given that CCP's entire current playerbase are PC gamers.

What does Dust play like? A generic FPS?

I played it a while ago for about a week, and ended up never playing it again because everyone just spawn camped the whole time. Its just a generic FPS, that feels fairly like a play2win game. I had to grind to get anywhere.

I haven't really touched the game in a while.. it was fun at first but got stale for me fast. I think it's worth the price though (free). I don't think I'd ever pay cash for the stuff in the game, but it's good enough to be a time killer when I want a few frags. I do like how you can not play for a long time, but still earn XP .. so you could not play for a year, and come back and have lots of skills to raise.

They don't want to compete with themselves. Making it PS3 only killed it for me personally. I am pretty much exclusively a PC gamer now. I will pick up the xbox controller again when GTA:V comes out.

This is exactly how I felt about it. It's cool for a free-to-play, but pretty meh overall.
