1. Don't paint the Ushabti bone directly onto the model, it needs to be primed.
A white primer will give you overall brighter colours, black will give you dark colours and a grey primer will give you natural tones really.
2. Brown or Sepia is a personal preference really, try both and see what you like. I daresay sepia will produce a more typical bone colour. You could even try both.
3. Final edge highlights are again up to you, you are best off just painting a test model and see if you like it, take photos at all stages of highlighting and see what you like, then just use that for the rest of your army.
4. Its a pretty simple and standard method for painting power armoured models, should work fine.
My overall advice is paint a test model, see what you like, replicate it for the remaining models, be happy.
