On the perfumed wind

Started this as a general blog over in discussions, but its rapidly going to shift to just battle reports, so I thought I'd jump it over to the more relevant forum.

For my third game ever, I'd finished painting the battle box and (mostly) painted a couple 2 pt solos to bring pMorghoul's battle box up to 15 points.

pMorghoul
Cyclops Savage
Cyclops Savage
Titan Gladiator
Agonizer
Mortitheurge Willbreaker

Kiwidru added a unit to his previous list to top him off to a healthy 15

pBaldur
Wold Guardian
Woldwarden
Shifting stone & stonekeeper

You'd think with only only one new unit to acquaint myself with, I'd pay attention to what exactly the stones did, but you'd be wrong... FORESHADOWING!!!!

We were trying one of the scenarios out of the SR2013 pack, though I'm not 100% on what it was. Basically, we could win by controlling a couple areas, with the far one being tougher. There were objective markers too, but we just ignored them. I was hoping to bust out some admonition shenanigans this time around to make sure I got the drop on the circle-ites.

We ran along towards each other, though half way through my first turn, I got nervous about maybe not spotting some crazy circle teleport shenanigans, and camped a fury for a transfer. This of course was after activating all the beasts and riling everyone up to where I would have full fury next turn.

A valuable lesson is here somewhere. I just know it.

So the savage ran over and chopped a piece of the gladiator to start my next turn. I thought I might still be okay, because nothing was *that* damaged, and I was ready to try some admonition trickery by putting a savage out as bait. If possible, I'd use the move to set up a killer charge next turn.

Something about that Wold Guardian's position should have been ringing a bell.

One Circle turn later, my savage had been annihilated, with admonition untriggered, thanks to the place effect of the shifting stones. Couple this with Baldur popping feat to make everything rough terrain (first reaction: "Rush baby!") and no pathfinder (second reaction: "Damn.") and I was going to be in a difficult spot for the counter punch.

Operation: Skorne Alpha Strike is kinda blown...

Mustering all the trickery I could think of, which is to say about half of what I actually could do, I pushed abuse and rush on to the gladiator, getting a 6" threat range even under Baldur's feat. This was enough to get into the guardian, but I'd screwed up activation order and didn't get Puppet Master on him on the way in, which would have helped, what with stone skin running on the guy who... already had stone skin? Anyhow, I did a bunch of damage but failed to wreck any aspects and that was pretty much that...

Despite an impressive stack of counters, the gladiator can't bail me out...

There was a little more dancing around, but it was game: Baldur at this point.

Things I learned:

Admonition won't trigger if a model is placed rather than advanced. Booo!
Put a little more thought into order of activation. Wrecked two turns running by jacking that up...

Things I'm struggling with:

Don't have enough experience or knowledge about enemy threat ranges to really know what to do in the opening turns. Running headlong forward seems to be the default, with the next turn being a reaction to what I see happen. Maybe that's the way with Skorne. Or at least pMorghoul Skorne. Or *at least" pMorghoul Skorne at 15 pts.
I don't totally understand measuring conventions. If Baldur's feated, when do I get to measure to see where his feat has turned stuff into rough terrain, and where is safe to walk? I had a few guys on the edge and couldn't figure out if I could skirt it or not.

What's next?

Run (Skorne) and Gun (Cygnar) at 15 pts!

Note: Sorry for the blurry pictures and the speech bubbles. I'm rusty and the colors altered on import. Hope to get better...

Great work Zeke, I'm taking the plunge myself with Skorne and hope to learn as you do.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Thanks Hargus! I'm up to about 15 games at this point, but haven't been able to keep up with it as much as I'd like. I think I'll do a blurb summary of the general feel of where I'm at to catch things up, and then look into the possibility of reports again.

Let me know what you learn from your own experience- are you going Battle Box?

someone who plays circle correct me, but I thought the stones teleport someone inside the triangle they form, to anywhere else in the triangle.

from the pictures it looks like he teleported the guy like 6 inches outside the triangle.
