I don't know if anyone else is a fan of the show but I like both versions so I started a thread.

Love the Brit version, now going to start the US one.

Which one came first? I didn't know there was a UK version.
That said, I've never really gotten into the US show. is the UK version similar? Does it have a different style that people who don't like the US version might find more enjoyable?

The UK version is the original and is more believable.

Ours did come first, though not by much. I'm going to guess you've heard of Ricky Gervais...? It's his brainchild - in fact, it's what made him famous.
That said, I've never really gotten into the US show. is the UK version similar? Does it have a different style that people who don't like the US version might find more enjoyable?
I may not be speaking from a position of strength here, as I can't stand either version, it's just not my idea of *funny*. But I hear from my fellow Britishers that the US version, while passable, just isn't the same - and it's largely down to the people in charge not getting the type of humour. Best thing I can say is, check some of both versions out and pass your own judgment.

I despised them both. The UK version was something that I would not watch because;
a) It had Ricky Gervais
b) It wasn't that funny
c) When you spend your day in a job surrounded by co-workers like the characters in the show you need a break from that level of stupid.
The US version I just didn't find funny either.

I reeeelly dislike Steve Carell.
Regarding the Office. If I wanted to sit through an hour of watching people crack bad jokes and be socially awkward, I'd be happy to be at work. It's the same reason why I can't watch Office Space anymore. It feels like it's one of those shows that's only meant to be enjoyed by the people who don't live it. Kind of like Big Bang Theory.
And I mean, at least the IT Crowd is at least marginally funny sometimes.
...sometimes.

Except Michael Scott isn't serious instead he thinks he's funny when in reality he is not creating awkwardness.

I liked the US version, I liked that they ended it on a good note rather than milking it too far. To be honest they probably should have ended it after Michael (Steve Carell) left at the end of the 7th season but they managed to pull it off. Gotta love Dwight

Hated the US version, haven't seen the UK version but it's anything like it's sibling then i won't like it either.
I seriously dislike Steve Carell and Ricky Gervais just gaks me up the wall. I find neither of those two actors even slightly amusing.

Yup, they both end up typecast because they're both one trick ponies, whose careers revolve around flogging the same dead horse.

Not a fan of either.
Had to work for an English boss who was a big fan of it.
(unfortunately, this then made the show look like a reality tv show in comparison.)
Neither a fan of Ricky Gervais nor Steve Carell.

This is real spooky, as started watching the US version a couple of weeks back, up to season 5 and loving it.
Dwight is just so funny, especially when he started the fire, because nobody listened to his fire safety speech, to test everyone.

To all those who've mentioned they don't like Ricky Gervais - try checking out his stand-up comedy. You might not like it still, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it a lot funnier than any of his TV stuff.

I love the UK version. Exactly my kind of humour, and with just two seasons and movie it lasted exactly as long as it should.
I have seen a bit of the US version and I thought it was pretty good as well. In fact, in a few ways it improved on the UK version, as it better developed the supporting characters. But it went on for what seemed like forever, and so I kind of lost interest over time. And it was never as excruciatingly cruel as the UK version. Still good though.

I love the British version and am a big fan of Gervais in general though I can see why he rubs people up the wrong way. It's really all a bit of act though.
Only seen a couple of the US episodes. Not out of snobbery or anything I just haven’t had time to watch them. I do mean to at some point and the ones I've seen I do like.

I tried watching the US version with people who loved it. I said it was stupid. They informed me I had to watch from the beginning to truly appreciate it. I tried watching the first two episodes and hated it. They then told me I had to get deeper into the story. Which basically means they were a couple of jackasses and I was gullible and lost an hour and a half of my time.
