A friend of mine love X-wing and his birthday is coming.
He have the basic game, millennium falcon, slave one.
Any suggestion on what should I buy him?

He is not hoping to build one strong army; He's trying to build 2 decent force for casual games.

The TIE Fighter Expansion Pack, Tie Advanced Expansion Pack, and 2 X-wings, one of which should be the Expansion Pack (gets you Wedge and a few more cards that don't come in the base game, same holds true with the TIE Fighter Expansion Pack).

Beyond that, you should obviously buy him everything...

If you're not looking to drop a lot of coin I would suggest the Avdanced and X-wing expansion pack(s)

Buy him another core set, 3 ships, extra dice, extra rulers... best bang for the buck for you. He can get the expansions himself later

I'd say a y-wing, a-wing and intercepter. $45, if you can find them at retail/amazon. Check barnes&noble.

I second another Core set.
Makes gaming easier as you'll have two sets of dice, rulers, etc and you get 2 more Tie Fighters and another X-Wing.

It really is a must-do for anyone looking to really get into the game... buying the dice alone is like 10 bucks , and the ships would be 45... just spend the 35 and use the leftovers towards an expansion pack... you need 1 of each, even the x-wing or the ties.

I agree that another base set is probably the best value per dollars spend. But I suppose he would like a entirely new ship or ships...

Obviously ... but I would also recommend the 2nd starter.
Things are much easier with the additional dice as well as enough templates for two players. If you do end up buying ships ... the TIE and X-Wing for additional pilots are a nice way to start. Personally, I love Interceptors, so you might as well buy plenty of those as well.

In the end though, it is going to be up to the supply available around you

1) Another core set. Best bang for your buck.
2) A TIE Fighter and X-Wing booster
3) A Y-Wing and TIE Advanced
4) Anything your FLGS has in stock. This may be a tricky proposition. Stock for this game appears to get hoovered up at an alarming rate. My hunch is Canada might be involved...

I really agree with Evil Toast.
I just picked up a second starter, and it made all the difference in terms of play-ability. Having enough dice and templates really sped up the game. I haven't bought anything from second wave, though I suspect that The Falcon and Slave One will be making it into my collection soon.

That look like a decent summary of the general consensus. Thanks you all. I'm going shopping!

Swap 2 and 3 on that list is my advice.

I've just started this game myself and I'm about to buy a 2nd core set. I’ve already picked up an additional A-Wing but that’s it sofar. Is it worth getting a separate X-wing as well for Wedge?

Sadly Tie Advanced/Interceptors are as rare as hen's teeth atm so I'll have to do without them for now. I hear they will be available again in October/November time.

It's worth it to pick up 1 of the TIE Fighter and X-Wing boosters simply for the 2 or 3 extra cards and the pilot you don't get in the core box. Beyond that... CORE CORE CORE

Seems like everyone agrees that core is the way to go. I know i need another one

I'd say Core.

Then probably X-wing, TIE Fighter and TIE Advanced...the latter because it gives the Empire a shielded alternative.

The big ships also give you shield upgrades you can purchase....just saying.

His friend already has a Slave and Falcon. Another one of each does have merit, but think he's after something different.

I'm thinking the final chapter of this story is going to be along the lines of "All I managed to find was X and Y from some obscure hole in the wall store...".

Lol. Fair enough. Yeah, they're pretty rare in most places. I've been lucky, everywhere I go the supplies are decent to amazing.

I started with the box set, then purchased an additional Xwing, a Y wing, 2 A wings, 2 interceptors and the falcon. I really want one more Y, 2 advanced ties and an additional box set, the. I might be good for a while, but I would still onl have 8 imperial ships.

Obviously (longer term goal) I plan to have at least one of all the big ships although I have high hopes for an additional YT-1300 with a custom paint job named the Centenial Chicken!
