Okay, I know this may not be much of a list. But using:

x1 battleforce
x1 trukk
x1 flyer (I went with the burna-bommer)

I had bought a second trukk for the other squad that comes in the battleforce. And from the (you could say, leftovers) I was able to toss together a warboss. As for the gear options I more or less went with was was displayed on the box, so theres a shooty squad and a CC squad.

Just wondering if for someone starting a going to be small army would have been getting the flyer be a too soon of a descion, and should have waited to do a few games first?

Yeah I know Ork rely on #'s of troops, but am/may just get enough troops to make two full squads but probably wont get more then that as I've got two almost full GK's & IG armiies.

And for the clan, I am going with Death Skulls.

You could go on eBay and look if there is still black reach orks that would be a good addition

Imperial Guard and Orks a good compliments to each other for allied forces..Orks are fun and just starting out your fine ..I would Suggest an AOBR box if you can find one for reasonable..(More Beakies for GK conversion..and More Orks..)

WarBoss is easy plenty of them on Ebay for cheap ..including metal model warbosses (like Gaz)

Any chance of converting that Burna Bomma to a DakkaJet?

I would try getting dat burnaboma back to a dakkajet or converting/magnetizable. burn bommers are not very useful. also more dakkajets and lootas you will make a great army
