Subject: Which traitor legion am I looking for?

Automated Rubric Marine of Tzeentch
|
I'm currently building a daemons army, primarily Nurgle, but with a smaller Tzeentch daemons detachment comprised of 15 horrors w/ a Herald. I plan on using them as a spawning unit in case the warp or portalglyph spawns new units faster than I can recycle my plaguebearers.
I think they could also be used as an allied detachment for a sporting opponent. But that situation being as unlikely as it is, I may just flesh them out into a second daemons army, or even better, allies for a CSM army.
So my question is this: Situated with an army of Nurgle Daemons, and only a unit of Pink Horrors and a Herald of Tzeentch to found the other side of the army with, I'm thinking about what traitor legion would be the best fluff-wise.
I'm looking for flexibility. So probably not Thousand Sons... although I won't lock that door just yet. Maybe a dedicated Thousand Sons player can win me over with a passionate argument. At the moment my mind is on Black Legion, now that their new expansion has come out.
Keep in mind none of this is set in stone. If you think I should shift the entire focus of what I'm doing, by all means, let me know.

So a CSM legion which loves using daemons? Then it is the Word Bearers for you!
Word Bearers are the most passionate about daemons, seeing them as enlightened beings. Plus they are the most horrible, vile and evil legion going around, as they are the ones who caused the Horus Heresy. When the Word Bearers go to war, they summon hordes of daemons and thousand of loyal cultists (meat shields) to help them get to victory.

Fluff wise if you have the rival god's daemons in your army the best legion would be Word Bearers. Ironically the best way to portray fluffy WB Dark Apostle in current edition is an undivided Sorcerer, even while there are Dark Apostle rules.

Would the Word Bearers actually fight daemons, though? Even if it's part of the great game? I'm actually reading the Word Bearers Omnibus right now.

Word Bearers probably would, as they are also happy to fight each other too. But not as much as other legions do.

Im not sure word bearers fight each other. They are still fairly unified as a legion with several semi autonomus hosts running about.
That said they dont like the idea of humans devoting themselves to one god, so if the daemons were trying to get humans to submit to one and only one chaos god they might fight them.

Plenty of intrigue and internal power struggles inside the XVII Legion. The Dark Apostle trilogy paints this very well (and is a great read if you are thinking of doing Word Bearers).

Indeed, most of it focusing on Erebus and Kor Phaeron butting heads.

Thank you! I've been saying that since the book came out and everyone always looks at me cross eyed!
OP - yeah, Word Bearer's all the way!

Wait, what were we talking about again? Did I ever tell you about the time I gave you five bees for a quarter? That's what you'd say in those days, "give me five bees for a quarter", is what you'd say in those days. And you'd go down to the D&D shop, with an onion in your belt, 'cause that was the style of the time. So there I was in the D&D shop..." |
