Hello, I have recently begun war gaming (and introduced myself earlier today on the forum), and was looking for some advice on my army list. Currently 3 wins from 4 games the list is as follows:

HQ: GM Sammael

Troops:
10 man tactical squad
+Plasma Cannon
+Plasma Gun

6 man RW attack squad
+Vet Sgt
+PowerFist
+Combi Plasma
+Plasma Gun x2

Heavy Support:
Predator
+TW Lascannon
+ Side Sponson Lascannon's

Total points = 746

So far I have played against Nurgle Chaos, Iyanden Eldar, Imperial Guard and won. I lost narrowly against Imperial Fists after some wayward plasma cannon fire.
Tactics have evolved each game, as I learn. I tend to have Sammael zip around the map being a nuisance on his own, whilst charging the bikes forward to deal with dangerous untis in my opponents army. I learned from the Imperial Fists game that not moving the heavy weapon marine in the tactical squad is pretty important, however the squad can move and leave him as long as models are within 2" of each other. Its been good fun learning as we go along, as two of my four opponents (IG and Nurgle marked chaos) are also newbies.

Now onto the next round of fixtures. In the league we are participating in, the points value increases from this point to 1000 points, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on where to go from here. I have been considering Aegis defense and devastator squad camping in there, or potentially a squad of black knights. Now that fliers are going to be introduced to the league, I know thatI will struggle against chaos and possibly Eldar if the right precautions are not taken. My next game is against an ultramarines player who fielded three vindicators in his last outing at 750. I struggled to deal with 1 vindicator in the Imperial Fists match. Any advice you can pass along would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

No advice guys? I am torn between adding heavy support, more bikers or some Terminators,

mind you, I'm a newb myself, but here are my 2 cents:
Terminators for 244 pts are not going to do much. The best you can get or that is a squad of 5 with a heavy weapon. Termies are generally considered overcosted, since there is SO much AP2 running around that instantly removes a big chunk of your army.
Striking with your RW CAN be effective, however. It's a mixed bag, I wouldn't count on them too much honestly.

Since you're rolling with Sammael adding more RW would be the way to go imo.
You might consider adding an attack bike to your squad and a Dark Shroud.. Fill the rest with an Aegis line and an Dev Squad and you can keep the Darkshroud where its needed the most, adding a +1 Cover behind the aegis or the inherent Jink-Coversave of the bikes after they moved.

Isn't that RW Sarge illegal? In my OnlineCodex you can choose only one... Powerist OR Combiplasma.

So if you add an Aegis, a Squad of Devastators with ML and Flakk Missiles, an Attack Bike with MM you come out at 996 pts. Darkshroud is nice, but shaving 80 pts off wouldn't be easy (maybe change it for the Attackbike and an upgrade or two, can't tell i its worth it tho)

MOAR bikers! If he's going to take 3 vindis then he's not going to have a lot of troops so wipe them out early so he can't score and then stay out of vindis range with your las pred and snipe em to death. Maybe take a biker squad with melta guns to tear em up! They will have more chance of surviving because of their jink saves than tacs.

All of this is sounds advice. I would say you have two options

1) go for more bikes and hope there are no helldrakes

If you are going against vindicators, you will want melta or long range firepower. You could get a bike squad with 2 bikes, 1 melta gun, a sgt with melta bombs and a combi melta, plus a Multi Melta attack bike for 160 points. You could then add the aforementioned darkshroud or add in a Land Speeder typhoon (75 points) to give you some good mobile support for those bikes. Darkshroud would effectively give your bikes a 3+ cover save if they turbo boost I believe, which should help them get close to the vindicators and blow em up on turn two or so.

I would personally recommend removing the power fist and combi-plasma from the RW sergeant. I give mine a power sword for "cool factor" but generally it's best to just leave them blank and let the plasma guys do the talking for you. You don't really want to be in cc with them too much. If you want to go tank hunting, melta bombs + krak grenades are probably just as good.

2) get some AA to kill said Helldrakes / air that will begin popping up.

An ADL with devs can be a fine investment, but you aren't gaining any scoring capability, which is a little worrisome. Those missile launchers will be a good flexible addition though, because if there are no fliers, they should do OK against most vehicles found at 1000 point games, other bikes, etc. If there are flyers, the flakk missiles can be good too

To me, adding the bikes makes more sense in terms of escalation. If your next battle is at 1250, you will have a solid 1000 points to build off of that can go in any direction really. If you go devs, you may do well for this battle, but might start to fall behind in troops for the later battles. Just my two cents
