Hopefully this isnt a silly answer but have you cleaned the models before hand as this may effect the primer your trying to lay down

Yes I have. It seems to happen when I apply more then two coats at a time. This never happened before.

How much time are you waiting in between? I have had this happen with spray-able filler primer, the kind used in auto shops, in cold weather if the layer is not fully cured it can crack as it dries, also seen it happen when not mixed properly.

I know this may not be the answer you're looking for but I'll shoot anyway. I have had the same problem and my solution was to use the citadel paints. I've never had any issue with them. I know they are more expensive but considering the fact that a can of base paint will cover $500 or more worth of models I find the extra $8 or so for the citadel paint is worth it.

Also I live in North Dakota and I spray my models in the garage and let them dry out there all winter long. temperatures reach -40 in the winter and up to 95 with 85% humidity in the summer

Paint cracks when applied too thick. You said it happens when you try to apply more than one coat. The first coat needs to be dry before you apply a second. Also what one person considers a "thin" coat another would consider way too thick. Unless it's a black spray it shouldn't cover all the previous colour in one coat. I would wait an hour or so at room temperature before apply the second.

That you you got a bad can of paint. These things happen sometimes.

I you do lots of spray priming I would say it would better for you to get an airbrush, MUCH more versatile than cans.

It may also be the Krylon, I used a can of it on an Apache helicopter a few months back and the SECOND cost cracked while the first was fine. I was okay with it because it kinda made a cool lightning-looking design with the first layer being shinier than the second.

Maybe it's just the Krylon though, because I treated that model just like all my others and I've never had any other paint cans do that. The Krylon wasn't used after that, I forgot about the can for months and just tossed it the other day.
