Has anyone ran triple wraith knight? if so what are your thoughts. In theory it can be dangerous if applied in the right scenario.

I was a fan of getting 3.. until I went to a tourney where the guy ran 3 in a 1800 battle - they got murdered by Hormagaunt poison attacks.. I mean murdered.. tar pitted then mutilated.. it was horrendous the problem with taking too many is that while they are awesome if your opponent behaves, if he doesn't do what you like him to and oblige you he will have nothing else to do but literally burn you down and he can tar pit you until he needs to do it.. wraithknight are VERY weak to snipers/poison/Haemonculi

Wraithknights are great. I take mine stock, head straight for enemy MCs/High AV tanks turn one, and hope for a turn 2-3 assault. If he dies before he gets there, then he will have most likely absorbed enough firepower to keep my war walkers/hornets/wave serpents safe while I blast him off the board. 3 I think would be fun. Might be even more fun to take an autarch and deep strike all 3 behind their lines! Only problem is the rest of your army might be a bit small.

Better hope they dont get puppet mastered and one insta kills the other lol. Also if you take 3 in a list your army is going to be really really small so you have to be careful you dont get tabled (if you deep strike them in) before you can get em in.

Personal preference maybe, I just dont think they are the best option to take, I dont need a distraction my seer council is good enough at that for me, i fill out the rest with lots of shooting warp spiders, serpents, I like to take 2 fire prisms for the utility they offer str 9 lance is beautiful and usually a lot better than str 10 no lance, and i can take 2 of them for the cost of one knight. Also adds to the hull count, and if played well is a lot more survivable than a knight as well. Its debatable which will do more damage but I think there are better ways to spend 300 points in eldar than on a wraith knight. And not to brag but I haven't lost with my eldar yet since the new book came out so clearly something is working for me

Also its hard to find another 240-300 point space in a list that already has a 600-800 point deathstar. Actually S9 lance is only better on AV 14 and only by +1. They are equal on AV 13, S 10 is better on everything AV 12 and lower. However you do get more flexability in target choice due to multiple weapons profiles. I think it really comes down to what type of list you are running. I think they are both great HS options.

Small but not impossibly small. Not any smaller than any seer-star list anyway. Puppet master could indeed be brutal, that would be after a pretty low chance of ID anyway. Either way, I'm not trying to say that a three Wraithknight list will win a GT; just that it could hold its own in a casual/mildly competative environment.

If you are fighting white scars, id say your in more trouble. Potentially spamming grav, I regularly take out 2 riptides a turn And they are just as easy if not easier to kill for grav weapons.

Look at the WK weaknesses (volume fire) and counter that with the rest of your list. Tripknight is very strong against some of the death stars out there at the minute (O'Vesastar in particular). Something like this perhaps?
Mantleseer 155
10 Guardians: Dakka Serpent 235
10 Guardians: Dakka Serpent 235
10 Guardians: Dakka Serpent 235
5 DAs: Dakka Serpent 210
Wraithknight: SL, Suncannon 300
Wraithknight: 240
Wraithknight: 240
Serpents and guardians provide Volume Fire, Seer supports. Pray for no Dark Eldar.

1 wraithknight if it can get into assault can be extremely good. It can also take out tanks. if you take too many that takes up too many points that should be spent on anti-infantry and it ends up screwing your game.

I have to disagree with practically everything said here. A Wraithknight is not an extremely good CC MC. He wants to stay the hell away from Decent CC MCs like the Black Mace Prince or Dreadknight for example. It is good in CC against the shooty death stars but needs a buddy to do that job. So likewise I disagree taking 1 is a great idea. 1 can be dealt with or ignored depending on your opponents army. 2 can't be ignored and are much more difficult to deal and is probably the easy number to build a competitive list around. 3 has some very good match ups at the top of the Tournament scene, but also some very bad though the later is rarer at the top end of the tournament so you just need to avoid a bad draw early on.

You are forgetting that each one fires two shots, so thats 4 total. Also, if you take sun cannons thats going to be 6 STR 6 AP2 blasts that re-roll scatter almost every time. furthermore, in assault, they will pretty much wreck anything that isn't a dedicated CC beast. Each has 5 STR 10 AP 2 attacks on the charge, and one STR 10 HoW attack. You can choose to ignore all that, but your army might evaporate.

At 1850 240pts doesnt take up a large portion of some ones army. And if you ignore it, it can wreak havoc on your army. wither its poping vehicles or killing characters it isnt something you can just ignore. That being said some armies can ignore it but the few that can no body really plays. I would never invest 300pts into a wraithknight, i think at 240 pts its the max i would pay for it. otherwise its cutting into better things i can use in my army

I run mine stock for the same reason as well, but was using the sun cannon as an example because many people seem to like it.

You can that's my point. Wave Serpent Spam for instance can just ignore a Wraithknight. Far sight Bomb or O'Vesastar can pretty much ignore a single WraithKnight. Whitescars just kill it at a whim, ditto Gravstar. But 2 causes most of those armies a problem due to speed and S10 in combat. Likewise against MC spam 1 will probably kill a Monstrous Creature at range before getting beaten to death, where as 2 have a decent chance of IDing a MC most turns as well as putting 3-4 S10 Ap2 hits on them and due to speed you can gang up in CC on the MCs once you've killed the real CC threats at range (i.e. Black Mace Prince).

What I'm trying to say is that if it can get into combat, it is a tar pit to any infantry units it gets in combat with. It has too little attacks to kill the whole unit, but the second turn it should, which will leave it open to charge another unit.

This will not be a great way to use him against most competitive lists. Which was the point I was making. If he's just assaulting Guardsmen 10 at a time he's not going to make back his points and will most likely not even be in combat for your opponents turn. No Character status means you have to watch out for hidden powerfists (though T8 obviously helps). Whilst as stated lots of armies can either simply ignore 1 Wraithknight or deal with it in a turn if necessary.

I think FlingitNow is right. In pretty much everything he has said. 2 is the sweet spot. I run a 2k iyanden list. My primary opponent is a farsight list with o'vesa. When I took one, the game was difficult and he was able to play around it. Now I take 2 he really struggles. I mean REALLY struggles. My list isn't that competitive either (in my eyes) I have 2 spiritseers, 2 x 5 Wraithguard in dakka serpents, 2 x 5 wraith scythes in dakka serpents and 2 x stock wraithknights. Stock us definitely the way to go! Personally I don't think there is a better HS choice at 240 points. But I am a ghost army fan!

I do use mine in combat! I launch towards riptides as fast as possible. Try and take a wound or 2 before I get there, and if I don't get lucky with an ID, I will charge them! And I almost always kill them.
Although, I steer clear of specialised CC units, especially DP's p, greater daemons, and nids!

Yes they can be used in combat but only against shooting units not combat units. You're against Farsight Bomb or O'vesastar and you have 1 Wraithknight it dies plain an simple. 2 should mean at least 1 makes combat you may even panic him into splitting his fire trying to deal with both. But against competitive players 1 isn't enough to worry him and is too many points for that. 2 will cause him a problem.
