Hello everybody,

I have been considering using my new boatload of Arcane Legions minis for KOW, but I thought I should find out if their kosher before I nipped their pegs. Since they are 1/72 scale, they are much shorter than Mantic minis. Will their height difference matter?

Also, I would prefer to base them together on a 20mm by 100mm base (if such a thing exists?) to fill out a rank of 5 20mm bases. I really want to avoid basing each mini on an individual Mantic base because it will make them all look like an army of children. However, since they are so small, I would probably use more than 5 for each row, gluing as many as it takes to make the base look good--especially where the tiny cavalry are concerned. Would this fly with most players? I really want to avoid basing each mini on an individual Mantic base because it will make them all look like an army of children.

Does anyone have any other recommendations? I'm not much of a tabletop player, so please feel free to explain everything in simple, if violent, terms.

Thanks!

PS: If there is a good reason for me to keep the Arcane Legions pegs, please someone stretch out your arm in slow motion and yell, "Nooooooooooooooooooo!"

If its true pegs than you can drill an appropriate sized hole in the base and glue the mini in for added security against snapping off the base. Occasionally this is also easier than trying to glue multiple feet to a base as you can go back and build up the base to any floating legs that look wrong.

On your truly important questions I have no idea, I haven't looked at any mass battle games science I quit GW. (RPGs, Deadzone and WarmaHordes FTW)

The pegs on Arcane Legions minis are not the same as on Dreamforge minis. AL minis have an integral base, like Mantic minis, but underneath that they have a peg, like in the game Battleship, so that they can be plugged into a formation card. The peg is thicker than my pin vice's largest bit, and clipping just seems like a lot less work. And, at this stage in my life I know better than to try and start a project with even the least bit of an 'unnecessary hassle factor'.

Kings of War doesn't use individual casualty removal and the only thing that really matters is the unit size (width x length of the tray/base the unit is on). You can play with pieces of paper cut to the correct size if you're so inclined. Every one of my KoW armies uses element basing to make the units look way better - a regiment of my goblins doesn't look like 20 neatly regimented gobbos, they're unruly mobs of 16-22 models (depending on how I modeled each unit), each on a 100x80mm base.

Each unit entry will have how many models it 'should' be - usually a troop of 10, regiment of 20, horde of 40, though there are some variations. All infantry are 20mm bases (25mm for orcs), so go from there. Troop would be 100mmx40mm (5x2), regiment as 100mmx80mm (5x4), horde as 200mmx80mm (10x4), etc. Cav are on 50x25 bases, monstrous infantry and cav on 40x40 or 50x50, etc. Apart from that it's up to you how many models to put on it.

Thanks JudgeDoug, that's what my impression had been, but it's nice to know.

Where did you get the 100x40mm and 100x80mm bases?

Warbases

Their premier bases are laser cut and come in packs for pretty cheap.

They also make bases with 15mm holes to plug Mantic figures into.
