We had a religious nutjob (Aussies would know the name Fred Nile) out here who believes that because old Alice peddles that "rawk music" stuff, that he is a tool of santa - and believed in "spiritually cleansing" any venues where he plays afterwards.

I, and quite a few of us who often have a strong opinion, like to start a thread in "neutral".
I will post a link to the story and then the story itself (or if it is a YouTube video the OP will be just the video) with none to minimal discussion on the actual subject. The talk comes after, but the story is presented "pure".
I saw Alice in concert two years ago. There was a guy outside of the fairgrounds gate with a big sign proclaiming how evil Alice and his show are. They were passing out leaflets too.
I thought all that was over back in the '70s.

Yeah, I can do that. I thought it was interesting since this is some of the last stuff I expected to hear coming from Alice Cooper, which I assumed was evident considering who was saying all this about the bible and religion. Sorry it bugs you that I post just a sentence or so. The reason I do that is so people will comment on the link and not anything I have to say, if they disagree with me.

I was listening to him just a second ago - his Brutal Planet album.
I don't have a problem with him believing that the Bible is all fact - It's not what I believe, but he's not forcing it down anyone's neck, or hurting anyone, so no big deal.
I don't tend to worry about what my rock gods believe - Dave Mustaine of Megadeth has some real messed-up politics, but I still like his music - same with a lot of bands and artists I like.
I knew Alice Cooper was deeply religious, but had no idea he'd ever been a heavy drinker or anything like that. Son of preacher man, I thought he'd always led a clean life, and was just a nice guy who liked to put on a crazy rock show.
I've never been in to his music, way too theatrical for me, but they broadcast a radio program of his over here, and that is great listening. His love for music and other performers really comes through, and his choice of music is often eclectic but always interesting.

The religiously outraged never, ever let a good bit of outrage go. Protesting and worrying about the decline of humanity is way too much fun for them to ever let any single issue go, no matter how dated and ridiculous it becomes. Look hard enough and you can still find people worried about D&D.

Alice Cooper's radio show is/was awesome. Big fan of his for a long time. Don't necessarily agree with all of his religious beliefs, but I like him just the same.

I believe he has credited his drinking as being the thing that kept him away from drugs.
To me he is really an entertainer more than a musician. You go to see the show more than listen to the music. It seems as much a theatrical event like a musical as a rock show.

Yep, they don't define who or what, just using the words “Higher Power”. As I understand it this is because many alcoholics have control issues. They try and control too much which they cannot. It is a way many people find helpful to let go and hand those things they cannot over to someone or something else. Hence the use of:
"Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference."
This pretty well sums up many of the problems alcoholics face (Or at least functioning alcoholics).
However Alice Cooper credits his recovery to Golf.

But yeah, I agree. A synopsis might be nice.
You are correct that Relapse should have added some form of commentary, but the relevance is fairly straight up obvious. Alice Cooper is not the most 'obvious' Christian. Though there are some even less obvious in the music industry, try Vanity for instance.
Poor video, but it shows a before and after, even if I admit to preferring before.
I get the impression Alice Cooper became a Christian long after he built his rock image or else he would appear a lot more like Sir Cliff Richard.
Kudos to him though, in the music industry declaring a faith can be limiting or even hazardous to your career. Good example of this:
