Hi All,

New to the forums but we've been reading them for a while. We are big X-Wing fans, we've looked at reviews, missions and products that get posted here. Love everyone's input especially the custom tokens, debris and the repaints. What we felt was missing from the X-wing scene is a quality and affordable gaming mat for playing X-Wing on. Our homemade black cotton mat with flicked paint was a great start but we really wanted something that 'pops', is great looking and practical to play on. Not just appearance wise but one that remains flat and crease free and doesn't move around with every nudge.

We have therefore had some mats printed up for playing on and wanted to see if there was enough interest for them among the other gamers here. We've had them printed on a single sided, flexible and durable PVC material. They are the “official” 3' x 3' play area and have a neatly folded and sealed edge that keeps them straight on the table. We have had them printed up with one of two different images, these are both photographs of real space and are taken by a friend of ours, we are using the images with his agreement. We were NOT going to steal someone's image from Google, don't agree with that practice at all. This way we also ensure great image quality, as they are based on very high definition photos.

Please PM us if you would be interested in any of these mats, we have a few made and wanted to gauge people's interest before ordering any more.

I love playing on these, they add a TON of atmosphere and are a much better surface than the cotton and felt options we have seen and used.

Thanks,

Iain and Rich

I love the first bluish colored one, but is that logo going to be on it? If so count me out. Also how much for a mat?

Hi Theophony,

Our friend Ben Jarvis provided these images, taken himself, we agreed to credit him on the image as he's done such an awesome job. The logo is small and is printed in the bottom corner, we don't think it will interfere with the quality or use of the mats. It is included to protect ourselves and also Ben's image.

We were unsure how well received it would be for us to post up pricing etc, I have PMd you the details.

Please contact us via PM for any inquiries, unless there is a better location in the forum to post this? Appreciate any useful pointers.

Thanks,

Rich and Iain

Not sure there's any rules about posting the price. People do it all the time.

For me to show interest, it would need to be around £25-£30 including P&P as that's how much the Gale Force 9 mats cost.

without having seen quality first hand It would have to be less than that, plus shipping to the states is really expensive and drives the cost up. Also the Logo ruins it for me, The local flgs hasGF9 mats and they are good because of no logo to even slightly deter from the game. I could just see my x-wing pilot getting distracted by a logo on the deathstar board . I can understand wanting to brand your material to get a new companies name out there, but when it detracts from the environment it really defeats the purpose of buying the mat. At least in my humble opinion.

Otherwise that first image has me loving it.

OK, if it's not a problem I am happy to share the details.

The price we have at the moment is £25 plus £3 p&p for UK, postage to the US is more, it's £7 but that is a signed service.

We have ordered a few of each design and had some feedback from the ones we have sold already, so far we have happy customers. If it would peak some more interest, I'll arrange some detailed in-use photos to give a better impression of the product. As a new producer of gaming products (others are in the works) it's great to have these comments. As enthusiastic gamers, it's key to have the opinions of others. Will look at the logo and it's impact on the mat moving forwards. Thanks guys for your comments.

Would you consider making some bigger versions? I play X-Wing and BFG and having a 'one size fits all' mat comes in handy for both games. It doesn't need to massive but a 6x4 or a 5x4 mat would be a goodly size for both games.

Also a 4x8 mat with outlined 3x3 boards in it would be great.

@filbert: We have looked at larger mats, 4'x4' and above, these are something we can arrange but on a request basis as they are a higher cost and as we are only starting out we invested in the most commonly used size. Please PM if you have a specific request, we can then discuss this with our printers and let you know costs. The original images are extremely High Definition so 'blowing them up' is not a problem.

@theophony: I am guessing we could arrange one large image if there was the desire for it or even the two images we have on the same mate, with space in between for all the game related cards etc. If you have a custom request, please PM so that we can at least give you an idea of costs.

We decided on the 3' x 3' mat as a starting point, as £25 for a playmat seems affordable to many.

Thanks again for all the contributions.

Rich and Iain
