Hey there

I was just playing a game with my thousand sons against some space wolves and it was one of the best matches I've played. It was not only close, but it was great to think of what was happening between all the soldiers, how it would pan out in book or something.

IMO the TS and SW grudge is the best in 40k, but I am bias being an avid TS fan.

I was wondering what people thought the best fights and rivalries are between the different factions in 40k.

That's the gist of it

Thanks, the tallest giraffe.

I like Eldar vs Necrons personally, though there's not much fluff on their battles other than Carnac which is a shame because there is so much bitter history there. As a character to character rivalry Drazhar vs Karandaras is an interesting story, albeit not alot is really known about their battles.

I like internal rivalries, between 2 characters HH is full of them and there are some in 40k too like Ventris and Learchus? cant remember his name been a while since i read an ultramarines book.

i like the politics behind it because they cant just straight up kill each other like TS and SW its all about back stabbing. snide comments and (accidental fire) i like that because it really builds the characters.

The DA vs SW feud is pretty neat.

I think the Iron warriors versus Imperial fists is an awsome grudge, marines hating each other and going berserk simply by hearing the enemy's name for 10000 years is just too cool

Yeah, I get what you mean. Although big, all out wars are great, it is always great to see nice, bitter grudge match where neither opponent wants can directly mess with or kill those they hate. The best stories are always ones about individuals who have to use subtlety and finesse in order to weave a plan to screw over their "allies". That's why I think that chaos is so great, as everyone is working out how they can stitch up the guy next to them in order to get ahead in their own great game.

That's one sided though.
Ghazghkull LOVES Yarrik. A human that puts up a decent fight is an Orks best friend. After all "Best friend" and "Worst Enemy" are the same word in Ork language.

Personally I like Imotekh's hatred of all Orks.
A tactical genius with a million years of experiance, and he's constantly confouned by Orks

Emperors children and the iron hands.
Ferrus and Fulgrim were like brothers and the legion shared the bond. When they were betrayed and Fulgrim killed his brother the bond they had was broken.
The iron warriors and imperial fist only hate each cause there skill set was the same and the imperial fist were stupid.
Space wolves and thousand suns are rival because they felt betrayed when they sent the wolves to kill off all the psykers.

excellent book,

but what im getting at is the fact that neither side really clashes that often. its sometimes nice to see them come within and each of blasting each other to bits. some snide comments here and there is all great but the Wolf and the Lion coming to blows is just the pinacle of brotherly rivalry.

its weird because when you think about it Russ came to blows with Magnus, the lion, angron, and the 2 lost primarchs (supposedly) how is his legion not horrifically demoralised by fighting there brothers when they have no personal grudge with them?

Thousand Sons put a massive dent in the wolves as did the fighting with the World Eaters. i know numbers of legions and numbers of dead are always vague and guestimates but still. thousands must have been killed in those fights, and the eradication of 2 legions before that? im suprised the wolves were still capable of any real crusading after all of this.

Probably the Crimson Slaughter and the Dark Angels...

It's hard to pin down my favourite. I do like the rivalries between the four Chaos Gods, so I'd have to pick that.

Hahahahaha!

In all seriousness, I'll have to second or fourth or whatever we're up to IF v. IW. The Iron Cage was some epic, epic trollery -- probably the only fun Perturabo ever had in his whole life. Even the fact that Dorn is a super easy target doesn't spoil it. Oh and Guilliman having to save Dorn's butt is just the icing on the cake.

The Imperial Fists and Iron Warrior is the best because I like the Iron Cage Fluff.

A close second would be farsight and orks.

Or did you mean on an epic type of scale really?

We're forgetting Gaszghkull and Helbrecht! Helbrecht swore a Crusade to go after Gazghkull, how cool is that?

But yeah, IW and IF are my two, or BA and BL.

That is pretty epic, it's probably led to more fights than which Primarch was the best at legos.

I always liked the rivallry between the Tau and the Nids when they first met.
Flesh VS Technology with each pushed to the extremes to evolve fastest but in different technological spheres.

Sort of reminded me of the Borg VS Species 8472.
