Hello everyone. I started miniwargaming a few months ago after looking at 40k and realizing it was too expensive for me too play as I am currently 15 and get 5 dollars a week. I instead chose Privateer Press's excellent game Warmachine with the faction of Cygnar. After saving my money and getting some extra money from my grandparents and parents, I have built up to about 45 points worth of miniatures with three casters. I started getting interested when I moved and went into a shop to play MTG. They sell 40k and warma-hordes there and I was intrigued immediately. That's when I got interested in 40k. I also do some tabletop gaming but not much. I'm willing to try 40k in the future when I have a job, or maybe just get dark vengeance cuz the minis are cool.

See if people in your are play 40k with the Kill Team rules. It's a cool way to get started, and at only 200 pts per side, you can get away with spending maybe only $60 to field an army. That way you can start to become familiar with the rules, the units, and even get in to the game without putting up hundreds of dollars.

Kill team sounds good. I really want to try 40k because I like the aesthetics of the models and some of the fluff. ( Haven't read it but like the general feel of the game.) For now I'll be sticking to warmahordes, but this sounds like a good way to try 40k when I'm ready.

One other way to try and get in is find someone to buy the other half of the starter box with you. After all, you need someone to play against! Get a friend hooked as well and you can learn together!

There's another warmachine player about my age I play with at least one a week and he's looking into warhammer for when he gets employed as well. I'll talk to him about this, as Dark Vengeance seems to have a neat sort of "mini-campaign".

It's a pretty good entry point, and the mini-rulebook you get with it is priceless. Beyond that to play more you'll need to pick up a codex for your army, chaos or dark angels or marines. and a few more models to make a bigger army. As long as you guys can share the mini-rulebook, you should be fine until the point you guys are ready to move on to the big game and get another rulebook and stuff.

Hey, welcome to Dakka. If/when you get dark vengeance you wiil get a playable load of points (600-700 I think?) on each side which lets you have enough to play small-medium sized games or maybe play with someone else to do 1500 points - I recommend it for a new player to wh40k.

If I end up buying it on my own, would it be accepted by most players if I do some minor conversions to make the Dark Angels Chaos-y? I would probably put some slashes through the DA symbols and maybe some red X-es over them. I'm not gonna be able to buy it till October with birthday money and hopefully a job soon after I turn 16 but at least I have some ideas now.
