Hey, I am slowly building my Chaos warband, but I can't decide on one single chapter to play and paint, so I am wondering if it would be fluffable to combine my two favourites.
My reasoning for why it could work is: Alpha Legion is mysterious and nobody really knows where their loyalties stand. Personally I don't know if they're still loyal to the Emperor after 10 000 years, but I don't buy them having converted entirely to Chaos. If I remember right from when I read Legion, the Alpha Legion wants the
IoM to collapse to prevent Chaos from taking over (right?), but letting humanity disappear to save the rest of the galaxy doesn't seem ideal either. So enter Malal/Malice, opposed to the other ruinous powers. Despite being Chaos, he is a counter-force, so would it be possible for Alpha Legionnaires to look to Malial in an attempt to confuse and upset the other Chaos gods, either to weaken or destroy them, or just to set them back to buy more time while a better solution is found.
Of course the fluff I would make for my army would be vague, but I'm pretty certain on the following:
-They are opposed to both the Imperium and the four main Chaos gods
-They are (currently) drained of resources and depend largely on looted materials
-Depend on cultists/infiltrators, as well as renegade guardsmen. The two groups occasionally mix, with cultists joining the ranks of guardsmen and vice versa
-Most Marines are Sons of Malice, Alpha Legionnaires typically being more in the background as characters or cultists (is it a cooperation or is the
AL exploiting the SoM?)
-Not being bound by Imperial doctrine, research and science is not frowned upon. Mutations and the appearance of Spawn are therefore written off as biological experiments rather than warp influence.
So could anyone with a better knowledge of fluff than me verify if this would be too far-fetched or if it could work? And if it could work, got any ideas for things I could include or expand upon? Any comments and feedback is appreciated, thanks
