Assigning large numbers of random hits to large units is hopelessly complex. Since ork mobs can now take a whole bunch of randomly assigned hits from their new Mob Rule, we need a quicker way to determine which models get removed.

Here's how:

Roll 1D6 for every hit which needs to be assigned.

1: the unit's controlling player assigns the hit to whichever model he likes.
2: the hit is assigned to the model closest to the controlling player's own board edge.
3: the hit is assigned to the model furthest from the controlling player's own board edge.
4: the hit is assigned to the model closest to the board edge on the controlling players left.
5: the hit is assigned to the model closest to the board edge on the controlling players right.
6: the controlling player's opponent assigns the hit to whichever model he likes.

If that isn't simple enough:

1-4: Controlling player chooses.
5-6: Opponent chooses.

That sounds like a fairly elegant solution. I may ask an opponent if they'd be up for using this substitution at some point.

Or you could just pick the middle of the unit and roll a scatter die.
