Behind You

So I saw Infinity and it caught my eye, but I was too busy. Now I am not busy, and am looking at it like I have rabies. It looks so cool and tactical. It's like you're commanding a cyberpunk navy seal team or something.

I want to run a Russian-Themed Ariadna army. It's the faction that caught my eye. I go to the army builder and see these 2 sub armies called sectorals or something. I have no clue what these are. What are these?

Second: How would I most efficiently build this army? Buy the starter pack? Then what? I read somewhere that a standard game was 300 points and 6 SWC. How do I do this without wasting my money? Is there any sort of strategy guide that I can read for Ariadna so I can come to my own conclusions? Is a russian themed squad even viable? What are my bread and butter units (Russian preferred but I guess I ruski-up the french metro guys, right?)

And lastly, what are some tips or things I should know before diving into this game?

Thanks for your input!

Sectorials are factions within generic armies that limit or increase access to specific units associated with that armyand have access to link teams.
Currently Kazaks(russians) do not have a sectorial, so they have generic availiability.

To be honest buy models you like and make an army around those units you like the look of.
Some helpful army making tips go to the Infinity forums ariadna section

If you came from a 40k mindset, I suggest you mostly drop everything you know.
Do not be discouraged if you lose your first ten games because of rules you never heard of, once you start to know more you will find ways to get around them.

This is the best description of the game I have ever read

MRPYM has basically covered it, but as a rule if you go for some miniatures that you like the look of, you will probably find some way of fitting them into a force.

Although 300pts is the tournament standard, I would probably start with something around 150pts, and limit the number of special weapons and fancy rules that you use the first few games - I would recommend going from the starter rule packs (not sure if these are downloadable, I will have a look) just so you get an understanding for the basic mechanics, and specifically the 'ARO' (automatic reaction order - one of the central components of the games). The great thing about Infinity is that when you are starting, you can have fun with just 3 rifle-armed guys a side.

It's pretty hard to waste money in Infinity, there are no bad units. You can build bad army lists but internal balance is usually great.

The starter pack is a pretty solid place to begin; you get the traditional three cheerleaders (always make the Line Kazaks backfield specialists, they're damn good at it and absent MSVs in-faction having the FOs will help you break camouflaged defensive positions), a defensive anchor (the Veteran Kazak, he's tougher than he's got any right to be if the enemy doesn't have ammo that hits BTS), and two linebreakers (the Highlander Grey brings smoke to the field and the Chasseur is a cheap camo infiltrator). It's a versatile set of tools that can play offensively or defensively; its weakness is a lack of anti-armour weaponry, expanding onto that I'd suggest a Tankhunter of some kind.

Sectorials are conceptually cool but they're also fairly advanced both rules-wise and in building lists from such a trimmed-down faction. I wouldn't recommend starting with one.

Russian-themed is totally viable; you get Tankhunters to break the big stuff, Line Kazaks, Scouts, and Veteran Kazaks to hold positions, Spetsnaz to go anywhere you need them, Dog-Warriors to go upfield and shred people...

One big thing to remember coming from Warhammer is that in 40k there are usually optimal units for a job and you'll take duplicates; in Infinity you have a lot of units that do the same job slightly differently, you don't usually take three or four identical dudes.

I don't know if there's a good strategy guide but I can tell you that even subtle differences between units can be very important. You're not going to be able to analyze the game and work out how to win reading about it; rest assured that all models are useful, get a small starter force, and play. Learn how some small subset of stuff works, expand slowly, figure out the rules. You have the advantage of playing the faction with no hackers so the most convoluted part of the rules don't matter, fortunately.

DOG-WARRIOR 2 Chain Rifles, Grenades, Smoke Grenades / AP CCW. (27)

5 SWC | 300 Points

Open with Army 5

Ok, so, what is this?

Tankhunter Autocannon

This guy be deployed as a cammo marker and when you decide BOOM! blows wahtever you want away with the cannon. It's basically an ARO troop. Optimal for reaction shots.

Spetznaz with HMG

Same use as the TankHunter but with different weapon. Similar effects.

Spetznaz with Boarding Shotgun

Completely differnt role in the batlefield for this guy. He is a para-trooper. He will pop out from a side of the table and begin killing everyone from close range.

Scout with Ojotnik

I'm in love with this one. This guy could be an specialist on your Army list. Infiltrator, specialist, forward observer... very useful.

112

A Doctor, deploy him next to your most beloved ARO troop so he can heal him if the Tankhunter fails.

Line Kazaks and Chasseur

Starter packs are always useful. The line troops and the Chasseur are essential.

Intel Spec Op

This guy is whatever you want him to be by spending some points. Make him specialist and he will be the cheapest troop with the best loadouts you can imagine.

Traktor Muls & Dozer

he thing is.... in Ariadna you will have Forward Observers as specialist for achieving objectives, but there is something else... you can Target enemies with Forward Observers and then... use guided ammo for destroying the enemy. These Traktor Muls are the artillery support that allows you to make that happen.

Dog Warriors

These guys are almost undestructible and they also have smoke grenades. Combine them with your specilists and you will cover in smoke the path for your specialist to reach the mission objectives.

I'm looking at Wayland games website and all these products would be line 215$ if I'm correct.

But I can make a more affordable (yet not so competitive) army list if you want.

I'd suggest starting with a starter box and an extra model or two for a 150pt list, Bobba's got a solid list there but you don't need three hundred points and fifteen models to start playing.
