I have a Skype interview with GW for store manager here in the states. What are some good questions for them?

I think he means good questions he can ask the manager to improve his chances of getting the job.

Bottom line, you're going to want to sell your ability to run a store, make good business and operate as a salesman. GW's investment in you is that of someone who can run a profitable store, not a hobby wizard. Now, knowing the games is useful, but that knowledge is supplementary to your ability to drive business and keep a store profitable.

Ask him to describe the stores culture, customer base, team dynamic, challenges he sees for the store, past successes, anything that takes a more strategic, indepth view of things as opposed to when do ya open on tuesdays or whats your favourite army.
Try and demonstrate through your questions what added value you can bring, whether it be thru team management, stock management, new ideas/innovation, challenges you can overcome or successes you have built on. Automatically Appended Next Post: Also what curran said, theyre looking for people that can run and manage in a sales environment not a true hobbyist, albeit thats a plus.

I'd also ask him about their sales training. Have they developed the best way to sell the product and have a program in place to teach you how to do it. That sort of thing.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better. |

Thanks guys. I'm a a better salesman than gamer, last time I actively played 40k was 3rd edition.
I'm more or less happy at my current job, but it doesn't hurt to look. I'm mostly concerned about things like average units per transaction, monthly gross sales, how they intend to drive foot traffic, and if managers are real managers or just glorified key holders with no say as to stocking levels and such.
But I don't want to come off as a jerk either.

Ask them . Asking a genuine, well phrased question never hurts, I worked recruitment for years, hundreds if not thousands of interviews. The best ones were where the candidate actually challenged you, made you stop and go hmmm, interesting question.
Plus you then waste neither your nor their time if they are simply glorified key holders. Automatically Appended Next Post: Good luck

Of course I won't. I can just imagine all the wonderful ways that would blow up in my face. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ratius wrote:Ask them . Thank you for the advice. This is the first time I've interviewed for a job that I didn't need, if you understand what I mean. I was afraid of coming off cocky or arrogant.

Did an interview with them back in January for the same position. They want glorified key holders and sales people. There is very little control that you'd actually have, and their world revolves around gross sales. More importantly, the salary rates were not anywhere close to what I would call competitive for a manager with even a small amount of experience.
In short, I would say ask questions specifically in regards to what you would do, and how much responsibility they are going to place on you. Then ask whether or not you are going to be able to implement changes and make any practical decisions in order to fulfill expectations.
Finally pay close attention to the salary discussion. They start talking about sales bonuses that bring your annual salary higher etc. etc. etc. It's a lot of smoke and mirrors, not really practical.
Good luck! The staff and corporate seemed like pretty good people to work with honestly.
