I think I know the answer, which is no. However, I've seen Batreps online that conflict with me.

Quick rundown: I'm hoping to start my Grey Knight Purifiers in a land raider. Battlescribe doesn't give the option and the codex says that they either may select either a razorback or rhino as transport. That should answer my question. However, I've seen batreps where people start their non-terminator units in a land raider at the start of their game. Perhaps they weren't aware or they made a house rule they neglected to mention? Or perhaps I'm missing something?

Lastly, if they can't go in the land raider at the start, is there any rules that state I cannot simply deploy them side by side then embark them onto the land raider on my turn?

Do what you love and love what you do. Like sell firewood.

It's same like with allied transportation. Take em separately and units can be embarked during deployment

Ehm....
you are wrong there and have been for at least multiple editions.

In the current edition any infantry unit in the same detachment or battle brother lv ally of the detachment can start in any non dedicated trasport as long as there are no special rules that prevent it.

So all these things are legal.
Terminator in landraiders
Tacticals in landraiders
Terminators in drop pods
Scouts in drop pods.
Imperial guard veterans in drop pods.
Terminators in imperial guard transports
Blood letters in chaos space marine landraiders
Eldar in dark eldar vehicles
dark eldar in eldar vehicles.

Things that are not legal.
Blood thirsters in rhino's -> Blood thirsters are not infantry
Terminators in scout transport -> scout transport doesn't allow non scouts.
6 terminators in a drop pod -> max is 10 terminators count as 2 each.

Just buy your landraider as a heavy support and you are fine

Just to clarify further;

If you buy your land raider as a heavy support choice, any unit may board it (as long as they are not prohibited, for example, a dreadknight can't get in one).

If you buy your land raider as a dedicated transport for your terminator troops to give it objective secured, then no unit other than the terminators that you bought it as a dedicated transport for may being in side it. There is no reason that you can't start said dedicated land raider empty with the purifiers behind it and have them embark on your 1st turn though.

Also in addition there is ONE Power Armor Space Marine unit that can take a LR variant as a DT: Black Templar Crusader Squads can take a Land Raider Crusader.

Don't believe me? It's all in the numbers.

Not true. Honour Guard can take a regular Land Raider as a DT (but not a LRR or LRC).

It really makes me regret not getting a Godhammer for my Honour Guard so I could free up an HS slot and also take an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor and get Scout on a Land Raider.
