Chaos Space Marines
Scheduled for late Q1

Look for a major rules overhaul (unlike the Tau codex)

New Codex and Minis

Not as many new minis as Tau received, but more emphasis on replacing very old minis that are well past their prime. (please Berzerkers, please please please)

Chaos Daemons
Still early in development

Tentatively slated for Q3

Will include any of the plastic Major Daemons not yet released by then. (probably only Nurgle and maybe Slaanesh)

Look for much of the randomness of the Warp Storm Table to be toned down.

Instead look for more environmental rules and effects, representing the fury of the Warp itself that must be fought by the opposing army during a Daemonic incursion – in addition to the Daemons themselves.

Each of the Ruinous powers will be able to influence the effects of the Warpsorm in unique ways – fitting their background (offensively, defensively, etc…).

I hope so, my Chaos Marines have been languishing in my basement for the last few years. I'm still moderately hopeful that an eventual Tzeentch Daemonkin will revitalize Thousand Sons.

I'll believe it when I see a rumour thread about chaos actually gain traction here. There have been several started in the last few months that die out in a day or two, which in my mind means no imminent chaos. Usually when something is imminent there are several poorly taken photos to follow the extremely vague rumours. I guess it's too early for that though.

That article might as well say "hey dudes! Chaos in the future sometime but we don't know stuff! Yeah!"

That being said, I might as well start saving my money now, because an update is absolutely going to happen sometime. I'm just too thick-skinned to get my hopes up about it at this point.

GW is crazy if they don't update csm and daemons soon... it's probably a bloody goldmine, and the daemons release can bring profit for AOS as well as 40k. I guess people may be sick of AOS chaos releases though, with all the blood bound stuff.

Anyone think there's validity to this?

My first reaction when I saw the title was Errr Threadomancy, than I read the quote (Thanks, Swara, so no one else has to click) and this is all so wishy-washy how can that person be considered a real, reliable source... seriously

Aside from the pure speculation that Chaos will come at some point in the future I would say no.

However if Chaos was an easy codex to fix it would be out already. Look at dark angels, the only other comparable codex which was completely redone.

It makes sense that they are rewriting the whole thing, a while back there was a rumour about a sorcerer enclave and when people thought it sucked the Chaos leaks stopped.

In my humble opinion, if it was a true rumour, and gw saw how badly it was received, they may have pulled an audible and decided to go back to the drawing board to figure out how to properly address this difficult and complex army.

Chaos needs a super heavy/titan type unit to compete with all the new stuff. I’m worried they’ll just make it the lord of Skulls which would suck since Chaos deserve something that could easily represent each of the 4 powers. I would hope it’s not just a chaos sprue to spikify a titan.

Every humanoid unit (non demon engine) aside from Raptors needs to be updated. So that's the CSM base kit, Havocs, Thousand Sons, Berserkers, Noise Marines, Plague Bearers, Possessed, and Obliterators at a minimum. Terminators and Bikers would be nice. A real cultist kit would be nice. We then need an assortment of lords, not to mention every single special character.

And this is a minimum assuming no new units which would imply the rules would have to be nearly completely redone just to make the army work. It’d be easier for them to make 1 or 2 overpowered, completely new units at this point.

I’m sorry, but Chaos needs the Dark Eldar treatment at this point.

Quite, I could make vague predictions about some factions that haven't been updated recently, mention they'll get some new rules, some new kits and some kit updates sometime in the next year and I'd be right sometimes too.

By the end of Q1 is within 5 months, to be honest I could assume that Chaos would be coming based on the sole fact that GW really doesn't have all that much to update to the new codex standard.

There was a post not long ago about the keeper of secrets already being done, but there was no mention of it in this rumour, which concerns me as on its own merit.

As always take any rumour with some salt, hopefully csm comes soon but at this rate I think gw will discontinue the Chaos line all together.

I'm no business major but wouldn't it be incredibly stupid, pants on head stupid, to do that? Not to mention the fluff that would be lost and all the rewriting needed?

It sounds like an absurd and ridiculous business decision.

While I think he was deliberately exaggerating, and agree that it won't happen, the above simply isn't a guarantee against GW doing something.

As far as I am concerned, the CSM box set is perfect. There's no need for an update (and thus price hike) of this core troop models. However, bikers, zerkers and havocs clearly need an uplift in box content and style.

I largely agree, the CSM box is great, but the inclusion of a few additional heavy weapons would be nice as well.

Some bikes would be great as we have no lord or Sorc on bike models in the line.

Same with any Hq mounted on anything including juggerlord.

Havocs box is a joke.

Terminators are very scarse on options.

Berserkers...

All the cult marines really...
