Ok so I need some help with writing up background for my renegade space marine chapter who have fallen to Slaanesh. I'm going with the idea of their pride causing their down fall with them believing they couldn't be corrupted and wasn't. So here's where I need some help my chapter will finally turn at some point during M:35 and so I'd like your guys thoughts on how much should they have changed by now. My idea was that while the chapter has now gone over chapter strength (total number of marines unknown) they have stuck together as a cohesive fighting force . Successor wise they were founded from ultramarine geneseed so I can definitely see them still being rather tactical and pragmatic but at the same time rather arrogant and vain.

They would be full CSMs by now. 5k+ years is a long time. Most CSMs operate as warbands but other than that, I guess it's up to you to decide how cohesive of a force they are.

And the Angels of Darkness descended on pinions of fire and light... the great and terrible dark angels.
He was not the golden lord. The Emperor will carry us to the stars, but never beyond them. My dreams will be lies, if a golden lord does not rise.
I look to the stars now, with the old scrolls burning runes across my memory. And I see my own hands as I write these words. Erebus and Kor Phaeron speak the truth.
My hands. They, too, are golden. |

A CSM warband is as cohesive as the force of will keeping it together. If 5k+ years have passed and they are still cohesive, what has happened with the leader to ensure that?

In theory a fallen Chapter could still maintain bonds of loyalty towards the Chapter and as such remain a cohesive whole even should various Chapter Masters die.

A powerful leader becoming a daemon prince could possibly hold the chapter together, especially if the daemon had really strong charisma, or some evil version
Alternatively, the chapter could be more like the Soul Drinkers; be tainted and reject the Imperium but following their own creed and brand of loyalty... just more slaanesh focused. A collective rather than individualistic pride would hold them together. A badge of honour for an individual being a sign of closer perfection of all.
This could in turn lead to almost a singular hive mind/spirit/soul within the chapter, perhaps stoaked and used by the daemon in charge.

I can absolutely see a chapter slowly being corrupted by Slaanesh. Arrogance and pride gradually become more and more extreme leading to absurd levels of vainglory and eventually corruption. They are already super humans, after all.

Active armies, still collecting and painting First and greatest love - Orks, Orks, and more Orks largest pile of shame, so many tanks unassembled most complete and painted beautiful models, couldn't resist the swarm will consume all
Armies in disrepair: nothing new since 5th edition oh how I want to revive, but mostly old fantasy demons and some glorious Soul Grinders in need of love |
