Are they the same models? Is there some kind of special paint scheme used on Bodyguards? Are there special weapons used for Bodyguards that aren't available for regular Crisis Battlesuits?

Thanks

As far as wargear is concerned, since bodyguards are all shas'vre (what would normally be crisis sergeants), they all have access to special issue wargear (relics) and have slightly better stats.

They have identical stats, and the same choice in wargear. They are a 10 point tax and all they provide is an auto pass look out sir. Skip them if you can. I only take them when forced to do so.

I'm guessing they are the same models as regular Crisis Battlesuits as well?

Thanks for the advice

There is a diference. Bodyguards have +1 attack and +1 leadership over regular crisis suits. Thats it.

In terms of models, yeah it's pretty much the same. Technically even the Battle Suit Commander, for much of the existence of the Tau, should be the same suit as the common xv8's. It isn't until recently that the Battlesuit commander has to be in the Enforcer Suit (and even then I think you get a bit of leeway so long as you mount it on a 60mm).

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

No, they have the same stats as a Crisis unit sergeant for the same cost. (Shas'vre rank).

Also an important difference is the Shas'vre in a regular unit needs to use up a hardpoint to take a relic, whilst a bodyguard does not.

That said? They no longer matter now that they aren't taken from HQs. The main benefit of them in the last codex was squeezing an extra crisis squad into your army.

The new crisis suit kit has five different torso plates, three are very minor variations of each other, one is wide and round and represents iridium armour along with some other parts, and the fifth is visually similar to the regular ones but with an elongated chest piece.

There is no definitive answer to whether it should be modeled differently, but if you want to, you have a lot of options and ways to do it.

As for colour scheme, the codexes do have suggestions. A squad's 'sergeant' typically has a little more of the sept's marking colour on parts of its body. A unit of bodyguards typically are painted that way.
