Hi guys, I need your thoughts on something:

I've been fielding Pedro Kantor with my Imperial Fists.

How and when should I use his orbital bombardment and what's the best squad configuration to make the best out of it?

The last few games (against a horde army) I've deployed him with 9 Sternguard Veterans inside a rhino and had him fire his OB from there on Turn 1. The results were mixed (enough to wipe 4-6 MEQs) but the bigger thing is that I lose a full turn of mobility which feels really sub-optimal (especially given the nice firepower of the 9x Sterguards).

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

You just use it where it's convenient.

Most CM appearing on the table are Smashbane Loadout so they don't really care.

With Kantor in mind, you should use it as just a long-ranged whatever-you-want-dead type of weapon - chill in your deploy with whatever and hit something.

Put him into Drop Pod with Assault Centurions

Their SnP will allow Pedro to fire Orbital the turn they arrive, and Kantor give them each additional attack (not bad at S10 Ap2 Armourbane at Ini 4)

add twin meltaguns and Omniscope for split fire

Does SnP also allow them to charge the turn they arrive from DP? If not, you can be pretty sure they'll get charged if they are in meltagun range which is a little self-defeating I guess.

Thanks for the thoughts.

It does not, and they can't fire Overwatch so anything that charges them will do so unimpeded. I know it is a ton more expensive, but a Land Raider as a delivery mechanism seems safer.

Since you're arriving in a drop pod, you should be able to stay clear of the remarkably few units that actually want to charge 2W T5 guys with 3 str 10 ap2 armourbane attacks each at initiative 4 and a chapter master.

If you often play against hordes centurions can have twin-flamers and hurricane bolters

For ~400 pts (with Kantor and Drop pod) the unit have
1) 9 twin-bolters and 3 re-roll wounds Templates
2) Orbital bombardment in other target (Omniscope) and Dorn's Arrow in following turns
3) all this on turn 1 disembarking 6" from Drop Pod (with Move through cover) and denying +1 cover from Night fighting (Omniscope)
4) 10 wounds T5 2+ with 5-6 powerfist and 9-12 S10 Ap2 I4 attacks
