While my main force is orks, I have bought a few supplies for some kustom admek 40k stuff.
Since I've slowly gotten more attached to the concept of admek, it might be my way into the 30k game.
So just 2 questions.
1.how do 30k admek do against the other 30k stuff, what are their main selling points. I'm a big cyborg and robot fan, could I make a good list focused around that aesthetics ?
2.what are the FW books I need to get all the current rules for admek 30k?

There are several lists for AdMech but your best bet (and cheapest option) is to buy the Tahgmata Red Book.
I believe you can take 5 Castellax as 1 Troop choice, so that would be good for you as you like robots

generally, 30k admech will wreck 30k marines (untill certain units get into CC), but remember: 30k is more about the fluff rather then the win, if you get what I mean. don't worry about min-maxing, and every unit generally has a use. there really aren't any "avoid at all cost' units when it comes to list building.

if you want robos look into the legio cybernetica build (1d4chan has a good tactics page on 30k mechanicum)

beyond that, dante has it right.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

I play 30k Ad Mech because I was tired of painting power armor but love the Horus heresy setting. They're a very competitive army but need to be played at 2k+ points to be any good. Your models are all pretty expensive so a 1500 point game will have you outnumbered pretty badly against most marine lists. If you like robots, play Legio cybernetica. You must have 2 units of 2 castellax as compulsory troops, your first fast attack and heavy support must be cortex units. You get +1 initiative to all your robots and double range on cybertheurgy. The regular krios tank, thanatar calix and domitar are the weak links in the army if you're looking to build a stronger list. Darkfire castellax, photon/plasma thallax, krios venator, triaros and regular thanatar are the stronger units. Everything else falls somewhere in the middle. Remember to take a lot of scoring units, they're crucial in 30k. I prefer the mobility and toughness of thallax but thrall blobs using a triaros for cover work well also.

So does the tahgmata red book have the rules for legion cybernetica?

The Tahgmata red book contains army lists for Legio Cybernetica, Tahgmata Omnissiah, and Ordo Reductor

Awesome, now I can have a robot army that's competitive. ..b4 all I had was ork dreddmob....but this seems like a good army to start that will satisfy that itch.
Thank you for the advice!

I have a small ordo reductor force, and it seems very competitive overall. The mechanicum has almost universal access to AP3 weaponry in large amounts, meaning your marine opponents will suffer a large amount of casualties getting to you.

Plus, big stompy robots in a plethora of sizes and styles. The key is generally to not get overwhelmed by lots of marine bodies or the hard as nails terminator squad in a spartan barreling down on you.

Definitely take out any heavy transports with termies, characters or a primarch in them. Even your CC units will get mulched pretty quickly by stuff like that. Target priority and using the proper robot buffs at the right times will be key due to always being outnumbered.

Holy Terra.

Depending if I get the stuff I bid 2.50$ on on eBay(bunch of Thallax and a few castellax), Imay have to start Admec. I'm not sure about my HQ choice yet, what can I use? I was thinking of using some Skitarii vanguard to convert up some Tech-Thralls, and maybe scratch build one of the Mechanicum Battle Tanks, but I'm not sure. At least it'll have a place for my Imperial Knights, once Corax replaces them as Lord Of War.

How are you guys using 'adeptus mechanicus' in 30k?

The Mechanicum owns the robots in 30k - i know what you're trying to say but it's difficult to understand you when you've put your shoe in your mouth like that.

Take a peek at some of the pre-made characters in the Mechanicum red book - inmar satarael is an MC HQ! Archmagos Draycavac can take imperial knights as troops! Calleb Decima is an eternal warrior with a 2d6 shot haywire weapon!

Draycavac can't actually take them as Troops, rather he can be taken in the Imperial Knight Questoris detachment.

As for the taghmata vs legio vs reductor discussion that goes on, they're all hard as hell, and are purely aesthetic differences, because the core is the same in all the armies.

There's a couple youtube channels (WintersSEO & The Dark Artisan) do 30k mech battle reports if you have a snoop around their videos enough, which should give you a rough idea of how the army plays in relation to the other armies on the field

Personally speaking, I run taghmata but that's simply because I feel it gives more freedom.

Base of my army is always 6 thallax with plasma, 6 thallax with photon and a plasma thanatar with a cheap ish HQ.

Moving up castellax with darkfire cannons are pretty solid.

Just don't be tricked into buying all the big robots as you will get outnumbered very quickly.
I've tried running thralls but just don't find they do enough for me and lack mobility.

Keep in mind they all must be controlled though unless they have paragon of metal or say otherwise.
This can somewhat hurt you or play to your advantage, depending on the unit in question.

While again it's personal preference, I've just started running a unit of 3 vorax with poisoned shots on the rotor cannons.
The sheer volume of fire does enough to thin a unit before being cut to pieces.

Also keep in mind that you don't have 2+ saves in your army, and the thallax suffer from poor saves (made up somewhat by T5 and 3W)
But the army in general is tough until you start losing saves.

Due to a lack of AV, you will also have a ton of anti armour weapons turned on your big boys, which in 30k can be an absolute ton. (For example, I run a 10 man missile team for my salamanders)
So if your not careful, you lose units fast.

Also, as a final note, be careful with points.
With tons of upgrades its easy to start running units up to double the base points with upgrades you won't always need.
Take the basic upgrades you need then only spend more if they are left over or not better spent else where.

How about a squad of Myrmidon Secutors in a Triaris, with the Fusilade Attack soecial rule and all armed with Phase Plasma Fusils I'd imagine they do a whole lot of damage.
