I am building a competitive list featuring 3 Imperial Knights: a Crusader, a Paladin and an Errant. What ally compliments the Knights the best? I am thinking Eldar for the fast moving objective grabbing bikes, maybe 3 squads of 3 bikes with an autarch. In an 1850 list that would leave around 330 points remaining. I'm looking for suggestions on how to round that out or, possibly, a more effective ally.

Why don't you try all 4 assassins.

Assassins, other than the Culexus, are a bit meh IMO. I need scoring in the list which the eldar provide. I was thinking of adding a squad of swooping hawks to handle flyer duties and be of general annoyance.

I think you should just go with a riptide wing. who needs obsec?

Lulz... Go with the Scatbikes and a Wraithknight! And then drop the IK's and buy more Scatterbikes and Wraithknights.

@ Tenzilla: I seriously considered the riptide wing to provide some measure of protection against the alpha strike. Six models should be relatively quick to paint and games will go pretty quickly either way.

@ greatbigtree: I really like your idea. It's seriously unfriendly and for tournament play only but the double D wraithknight would be awesome. I think I'm sold!

I'd run Skitarii/Admech

You can keep it competitive with the graviton things and the haywire from the vanguard would nicely complement the battlecannons of the knights. I imagine it would look awesome AND it would be fluffy

I would try and get some invisibility on the IKs. So maybe take Loth and some bodyguards and some obsec scouts/tacticals

I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time.

I run scions or skitarii with mine. Scions work out pretty nicely since they can deep strike onto the table. Able to get them where I need them to grab objectives or do close range support for the knights. Orders are pretty awesome for them. The last ITC event I was at I saw 2 knight list. 1 was knights with stormtalon formation. 2 was knights with edlar warp spiders and swooping hawks. Knight/stormtalon list did pretty good. He made into the top tier.

Was he using the Raptorwing or the Saint Tylus formation?

I'm favoring the eldar because jetbikes are the best unit in the game for securing objectives. I figure the Knights can apply pressure, the bikes start most games in reserve and then turbo-boost to get objectives and the swooping hawks take on the anti-flyer role. If I include a Farseer I would have a shot at getting invisibility as well with three rolls on telepathy.

I've been considering a 3-knight list with two Raptor Wings for a while now, I'd love to hear more about that list.

I didn't get to play him, but its my understanding the way the list works is you can use the flyers to create "walls" on the table to block charge lines. This is because you can't be within 1" of enemy you are not declaring a charge against or in close combat. Since the flyers are in the air and can not be charged. They fly around picking off infantry and providing blocking for the knights. The knights walk around the table dealing with the ground units that the talons can't deal with.

Objective-wise, I guess you can drop the flyers out of flight mode to hover mode to get your objectives, but i'm not too familiar with the raptor formation. I don't know if the talons are individual units or squads, but movement is still a model by model bases. So I guess the question would be is can a flying squad, can one of them change modes to hover and still be part of the squad as long as he remains within 4" of another flyer in his squad?

That sounds like a pretty good list. My meta features a lot of battle companies and most typically use the Anti-air formation to fulfill the auxiliary choice so I don't know if the flyers would live for very long. I took a look at skitarri as an ally and with the remaining points I could add 2 vanguard squads, an Onager and the Dragoon formation with four dragoons and a ballistarii. That seems a little fragile to me so I passed. Additionally, I play in the ITC so adding a WK to the list is not allowed since I already have 3 LOW in the list as is.

Current List:

Baronial Court:
Crusader - stormspear, sanctuary, rapid fire battle cannon, baron
Errant
Paladin

Eldar CAD
Farseer - jetbike, spirit stone, singing spear
3 x 3 Jetbikes - scatter lasers
2 x 5+Exarch Swooping Hawks - sunrifle
