So, I really want to add a full 20 man breacher squad to my Blood Angels legion. I can't get over how cool they look or how durable they are for the points.
My question is, what weapons are you giving these guys?
I def want to do thunder hammer for the serg (I don't think hammers are worth the 5 points extra over the fist, but hammer + shield just looks so cool))

As for the special weapons, I'm torn between lascutters or volkite chargers.

What do you guys like using? I'm obvs a little skeptical about using a hand to hand weapon that will hit on 5+ against anything but a building or tank :/ .

Working on it

I would go Volkite, the Lascutters do well in combat, but I think you have enough people for that so I would go Volkite

<Dynasty> ~10500pts
War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts
Admech (TBN) ~3500pts +30k Bots and Ulator

I'd take the graviton guns. 4 of them give a great inpact on the game even if you never shoot them I think they are better than the other options

I agree with this, breachers tend to be one of the more durable units that can carry them. It's one of the few things that makes them worth their points. A squad of breachers with a Vigilator seem like a juicy unit to take. A vigilator giveing them scout for a outflank is a cheaper way to get a 20 man squad into the thick of a fight.

Wait, but a graviton gun is a heavy blast weapon with an 18" range, so you can't even snap shoot it. When would I ever be in range to use that gun?

Exactly. Go with your gut here, I say.

true, BUT it also: gives you basically 4 glances on vehicles once you're in range (haywire) and it can slow down armies that don't have move through cover to a great degree (difficult terrain for 1 turn after you fire it)

either way: go with what you think will be cool to see/ has fun fluff.

In my opinion, Breachers are ideal for taking objectives. You get to an objective and just camp it, and use the graviton guns to slow down the enemy from getting to you.

See, I feel the same way, camp objectives, and tarpit. But if I have to move to an objective, the graviton gun is terrible! I can't imagine not firing on the move, hitting an objective, waiting a FULL TURN, THEN shooting something 18" away?

Also if I'm just camping an objective on my side of the board, if an enemy moves 12-18" away from me, I'm forgoing the ability to move and double tap with my bolters, IE, losing 16 bolter shots. And if they move 12" inches or less, I'm forgoing the ability to charge and get an extra 20 attacks at I5 with +1 to wound. This all makes me lean so heavily towards the volkites. Does anyone here have real experience using graviton guns on models that can't move and shoot?

Graviton guns can take Hull points off of a Flare shielded, Armored Ceramite-covered Spartan, so their pretty good.

Point taken, but man, am I going to get them within 18" of that monster? Like, if I was running a heavy APC list I'd park em 19" from my squad, next turn move em 6", deploy 6", charge 7"

what? do you think the 400 point spartan with the 700 point deathstar payload ISN'T gonna come to you? build your wall of grav breachers, and just behind them have your own praetor+friends to counter charge the deathstar after it gets it's transport shot out from under them. OR keep your breachers back, let them get charged (since you have defensive grenades base) and then charge in your praetor + friends (and more stuff if you want). boom, no more death star

TBH I forgot the Graviton guns were Heavy, I'm use seeing them on dreads and slipped my mind.

In that case I would upgrade the squad with melta-bombs. Then other not take special weapons or give them the volkites. My thought process is more that this units would help more agiest the Lethivan dreads, and other CC walkers and MC's.

If you want a breacher squad to be on the move then don't bother with the graviton guns. Though if you want to charge with them I would recommend the flamers instead, since you will be close enough to use them. And no one will want to charge against you either, 4 wall of flames + defensive grenades.

Yeah, I know the APC is going to beeline right at me, but that's my point, even doing that, they can easily avoid an 18" range heavy gun by stopping 19" away, then moving in and assaulting the next turn.

I'm still struggling to imagine a scenario where I'd reliably be able to get off shots with an 18" range heavy blast gun on a non-move and shoot model.

If you play Zone Mortalis or tight quarters games it might be a good weapon for a unit either camping on an objective, covering a corridor, etc.

best argument yet! I know nothing about zone mortalis missions, but due to a chinacast mixup i have tons of graviton guns just laying around
maybe I should magnetize their hands...
