Been Around the Block

Hi guys. In this post I'll try to summarize how I developed this idea of a list, and then I'll ask you to help me develope it further, so your comments will be pretty damn important! Let's start:

0- DISCLAIMER: I LOVE Lascannon and Heavy Flamers. Really do. Accept my little fetish.

1- Chapter: Red Scorpions. Because I love the colors, and I love the idea of being more orthodox than an Ultrasmurf. This is the only non-negotiable point, I suppose, since I'm developing this idea more because I want to paint them, than any other reason, really!

2- What do the Scorpions bring to the table: well well well. I've looked into it, and I liked the FNP for tacts, the Librarian who can choose his powers, and the Relentless Sternguards.

3- First Ideas:

3.1- Having Relentless in a Sternguard squad means I can Drop Pod, move, and shoot the hell I want. Here I was torn between melta and grav, but I opted for Grav since it's good against TEQ, MC, and even uncovered vehicles. I can't, however, Combat Squad the Sternguard in a typical sense (going for 2 different targets at a time), unless I want to rapid fire specialist munitions to a target, and Grav another one. But still...meh. The unit looks like this:

Veteran Sergeant Haas 45pts
1x Veteran 57pts
Grav-Cannon and Grav-Amp
1x Veteran 37pts
Grav-Gun
3x Veteran 96pts
Combi-Grav
4x Veteran 88pts
Bolter
1x DropPod 35pts
TOTAL 370pts

Why 3 Combi-Grav? Simple math to be able to wreck a vehicle. It's 17 GravShots. At 3+, it's 11,3 hits. They immobilize on a TL-6 (because of Grav-Amp), so it amounts to 3,46 immobilize results, more than 5 HP. Veichle dead.
Against TEQ, it's 6 wounds if they don't have SS, 4-5 if they do, 5-6 with bolter shots included.
This unit is FREAKING costly, but it probably would (and should) kill its target on the first turn. If the opponent focus them, well, we get a turn. If they don't, they can shoot and then charge for maximum profit (they have vetern profile!!!).

3.2- Sevrin is a really fun and useful HQ, being a decent Melee and able to buff his unit with the powers most suited to the event. I always loved honour guard models, and I like them as a Melee powerhouse much more than SS TH Termies. They also have access to the lovely Tears of the Scorpion Axes, which are really great (even if a little pricy!)

Magister Sevrin Loth 175pts
Chapter Champion 55pts
Tears of the Scorpion Axe
Honour Guard 45pts
Tears of the Scorpion Axe
4x Honour Guard 100pts
Power Sword (cuz I'm poor!)
Razorback 75pts
Lascannon & TL Plasma Gun
TOTAL 275pts

I chose the Razorback because, at 1500 pts limit, I want to have as much field presence as possible. I want to be able to shoot with my metal box when it delivered its payload, and having an additional Plasma Gun seemed better than TL the Lascannon. (Here, I would also consider switching to an Heavy Flamer and adding a TotS Axe, but I feel like being worse agains vehicles, MCs and TEQ-MEQ...ideas?)

3.3- Being able to Combat Squad a tactical and send half in a Razorback, while keeping the other half to defend the motherland (with a Lascannon, obv!), always appealed me. Much more if I can improve the resilience of the half squad going around (with FNP, obv!)

Veteran Sergeant 24pts
Veteran, Member of the Apothecarion
Heavy Weapon SM 34pts
Lascannon
Special Weapon SM 29pts
Plasmagun
7x Space Marines 98pts
Bolter
Razorback 75pts
Lascannon & TL PlasmaGun
TOTAL 260pts

I got the plasma on the special one, because being RF means it keeps the pace with the rest of the squad, and I can hopefully FNP the wound.

4- Filling the Slots up: with the previous ones being the bone of the Army, I tried to fill it up

4.1- Tactical Squad 2: this is a classic Tact, Metal Box model one.
Veteran Sergeant 24pts
Veteran, Member of the Apothecarion
8x Space Marines 112pts
Bolter
Special Weapon 19pts
Flamer
Rhino 35pts
TOTAL 200pts

4.2- LaserPredator: classic fully stocked lasercannoneer. Can you see how much I like them?
Predator 140pts
TL Lascannon, 2x SponsonLascannon

4.3- AA defence: because I don't field flying metal boxes, I have to protect from them. I know a single Hunter is not THAT much, but it's cheap and will help. Ok, reasonably I will suck to flyiers.
Hunter 70pts

5- And that's basically it. At 1500 points I'm fielding 6 Lascannons, a Suicidal Sternguard and a decent CC Honour guard. And a couple of tacticals. Seems fair to me.

6- What I'm missing: lots. I would have loved to field Sevrin+Honour Guard into a LR, that would have given me firepower AND assault vehicle (-1Predator -1Razorback +1 LandRaider??) I would have loved to field a second Drop Pod with a Multi Melta + Heavy Flamer Dreadnought in it. Or, maybe, a Legion of the Damned unit, just to field some beloved Heavy Flamer. BUT, that units seems a lot similar to my Suicidal Sternguard (even if sturdier, ofc!), and they would appear later in the game, and I feel removing a threat before it can be used is worth more points.
