Long story short I'm trying out this 30k business . I'm looking to take a Questoris knight detachment and use my Knight Atrapos and Acastus knight porphyrion. Can I use the Porphyrion as my HQ(LoW) and the Atrapos as my troop choice?

Afaik, yes. But outside of allies you would need 1 more 'troop' knight at the least. I could be wrong with the ball-on-legs knight

It looks like you could; the Knight-Porphyrion has the Household Rank rule (with the restriction that it can't be taken as an Aspirant or Uhlan), so you could totally have a Questoris Allied Detachment consisting of a Porphyrion as Seneschal or Lord Scion (HQ) and an Atrapos as Scion Martial or Scion Aspirant (Troops).

You would need another Scion Martial or Scion Aspirant to field them as a Primary Detachment, though. And the Atropos is capped at one per 2,000pts of game size, so you'd need a pretty big list to get any more.

And keep in mind that in 30k you can't just take as many detachments as you like the way you can in 40k; on the base Crusade Force Organization Chart you've got your Primary Detachment, your Lord of War and Fortification slots, your Allied Detachment, and that's it. Period. End of discussion. No more slots.

A Questoris Knight Crusade Army requires only 1 HQ and 1 Troops choice as compulsory slots, so an atrapos and a porphyrion can be combined into a legitimate list, of around 1000pts. You need to bring that up to 2k to bring the atrapos though.

Nope. You need at least 2k to take the Atrapos.
