Hello All.

I have been drawn to the 30k game and lore particularly world eaters, I have a few questions regarding starting 30k at this time.

1. With 8th edition coming out for 40k, will all 30k units get rules to work in 8th edition 40k?

2. What would be the best way to start a world eater army?

3. Any tips or pointers for a new world eater player to consider?.

Thank you.

3. Get assault vehicles?

Thanks for the reply, which rule books would I need to start playing with world eaters?

I recommend you look at the 'What is 30k? (An introduction)' post, it will answer a lot of questions.

1. Someday. Not immediately.

2. Gather chainaxes.

3. Gather chainaxes.

Postscript: Seriously. Gather chainaxes. You'll need a metric f***ton, the way to start 30k on a budget is to use the Calth/Prospero Tactical kits, and they (shockingly) don't come with chainaxes.

Post-postscript: And I need you to make a Contemptor-Cortus with a Dreadnaught-scale chainaxe (Warmachine Khador Warjacks are a good place to start). I keep telling World Eaters players they should do this and nobody has, yet (or at least they haven't sent me a picture).

(Before you ask "why don't you start World Eaters yourself?" it's because I'm still busy figuring out a Dreadnaught-scale scythe for my Death Guard.)

You're going to want the Age of Darkness: Legions book and the Age of Darkness: Army List books from the Forge World website. These are commonly known as the "red books" because they have red covers.

As for an update to 8th edition - right now nobody knows what's going to happen or when. GW has officially stated that Horus Heresy players should continue using the 7th edition rules for now. For an official citation on this - it should be on the Warhammer Community website on the post from... Saturday, I think?

In terms of 8th for the heresy it should likely drop just before book 8 which is rumoured for end of this year garunteed by next weekender in February but should be before then.

But do expect to stay in 7th for at least 3-4 months wouldn't be unreasonable. If you think you'll have a fully painted assembled force ready to go and expect a lot of games in that time frame buying the books is a good idea otherwise I'd hold off build mostly what's cool and just general things.

If you want tacs with chainaxes almost certainly will exist in 8th and very world eatery great idea to build 30-40 of them you can always use them. Dreads some basic vehicles maybe angron all should be usable and fit the world eaters narrative quite well.

Yeah, regarding q1, no official info has been released other than that it's staying 7ed 'for now'.

However, all the pointers are that 'for now' means 'as soon as FW can write the rules they'll switch over' and that this reason they're not doing it straight away is that FW are too busy re-writing all their 40k rules in time for release.

So yeah, many people are expecting the switch within the year. If you're planning on spending £80 on physical rulebooks, bear that in mind...

Have you looked at mortarion, it seems like an expensive place to start, but I saw a report on the 30k channel with a converted dread and it looked great.
