The physical copies are finally filtering out to the general gaming public and getting some decent reviews after being in semi-open beta for a year. I took a peek at the free quickstart rules linked above and I'm interested to give it a try. As part of starting a campaign, the players and GM design the ship that the crew will be serving on. Given my prior interest in ship design for the long out of print FASA tabletop minis and rpg games, I decided to give the new ship design rules a go here as well since the only TOS era ship "framework" in the rulebook is the iconic Constitution class. The setting for campaigns can pretty much be any time in the Trek universe from the NX-01 to post-Voyager. Bill Krause's Sentinel Class is my favorite TOS design and a good starting point for a campaign since it also has commercially available deckplans by Starship Dynamics. I got permission from Modiphius to tweak and post their TOS era ship sheet and am interested in some feedback on it compared to the original (also available for free on drivethrurpg above). A full size pic and pdf version of the sheet as well as links to Bill's designs are at the link below.

Thanks! I worked on a second sheet over the weekend for another fan ship class that I found. While the Sentinel is a late TOS design, Chris Freeman's take on a TOS Akira in his Attucks class is a contemporary of the Connie throughout its lifetime.
Full size sheet pic and pdf as well as my own largely unsuccessful attempts at a TOS Akira are at the SITZKRIEG! blog linked in my sig.

Just a quick update. I finished my TOS era four pack of ships that hopefully give players a bit of variety in ships that they can choose. Full size pics and pdfs are at the link below.

I love the designs. I'd buy one miniature of each, even at STAW prices. Reminds me of the euphoria I felt pledging for Axanar....

Thanks! I would to. In fact, I'm hoping to buy a 1/2400 Sentinel when/if one comes out soon.

For those thinking about getting into the game, it looks like Modiphius has sponsored (?) a free online character creator for Star Trek Adventures to get people started more easily in the RPG
https://sta.modiphiusapps.hostinguk.org/
as well as put out "Red Alert" miniatures rules for free which is an excerpt from their latest Command Division supplement.

My group decided to go for Starfinder instead so I haven't tried out the above myself but, if anyone does, feel free to post your thoughts as I'd be interested in hearing about either one.

Some more free content as it looks like Modiphius put out a character sheet for playing a Tribble in the RPG. Stats are given for the normal variety as well as a borg-ified version.

Has anyone had a chance to play thought it yet? I am currently working on a campaign for four players, and while I'm finding the system to be great, I am still wondering how my actual sessions will go once we get started.

I've only gotten in a month's worth of play by post (basically an hour or two of real in person play spread out over a month or two) so I can't really comment. :(

We are gearing up for our first campaign in a couple of weeks, I'm just waiting on my Beta Quadrant, Command/Science/Operations books to come in along with all the miniatures I ordered. I've got a buddy printing up some starships for us, it's really too bad they don't produce any official ship models. The infantry models they produce are fantastic!

My group played a handful of session that I GMed before we dropped it in favor of Pathfinder after finding out half of the group doesn't find a game engaging where they can't murderize things and steal their stuff.
I like the system, and it is to my taste, although it was a bit of work getting into the rules that are much more narrative and at the GM's discretion, considering most of my RPG experience is with systems like Pathfinder and Shadowrun that are a bit heavier on rules. One thing I never could wrap my head around is the division into scenes that I found pretty artificial and counter to the flow of the narrative. Maybe I didn't get the intention behind it. I don't know. It's somewhat important for resource management so I made cuts at what I figured were appropriate times, but I have no idea whether that was in any way as the designer envisioned it.
I also found that it puts a lot more work in the hands of the players. This may just be my group, but normally both GM and players are somewhat balanced in their workload. Putting them into command positions aboard a ship has them do a lot more. It was much more reminiscent of group play in Shadowrun than Pathfinder, to go with those examples.
One thing I did find is that in most situations the task set for the players, even in the upper difficulties the rulebook suggests, tended to be pretty easily overcome. Now I'm working with experienced players who know what they're doing, and that may not be the demographic the RPG is aimed at, but I'd suggest having a look at what your group can do and if necessary exceed the upper limits set by the rules if tasks end up seeming trivial.

That's awesome, not since Mayfair did up the stats for Clark Kent's glasses (powers cling 2, suggestion 9000 [Limitation-May only be used to suggest the person wearing these glasses is not Superman])...

Nice.
I got my copy of the Special Edition Core Book in the mail this morning!! I'm excited, the quality of the book is extreme.
I love how the book lanyard is tri-color matched to the colors of the Federation!

IIRC the Red Dwarf RPG had rules for a Skutter (maintenance droid - can't speak, has a single 3-fingered claw to interact with the environment and gesture with) PC.
