Hi everyone. Need some advice.

At the moment I'm running a pretty typical AdMech list at 2k. It includes Cawl in a spearhead with dakkabots and dune crawlers with a separate battalion of 5-6 small units of skitarii to act as a screen for the shooting units & two cheap HQs. Right now everything is Mars.

I'm thinking about shifting the infantry battalion over to stygies to take advantage of the -1 to be hit. I'm actually using some 30k figures as my vanguard so they look very different from my Mars units... so with a couple of special paint jobs on the enginseers and some tweaks to the infantry, I'd actually have a battalion that looked right for the Forge World.

Two questions:
1) Given the bubble-wrap role of these small units, do you think switching them from Mars to Stygies is a good idea?
2) If Cawl is my warlord... do the Stygies units get the benefit of the extra Canticle that he generates?

I could probably answer #2 if I had my dex handy, but I don't... so I'm asking. Stygies gets to infiltrate too don't they? I'm thinking that could really come in handy in deployment shenanigans or for giving those units more flexibility if they aren't all required for bubble-wrap.

Thanks for reading and in advance for any advice you may have.

Is it legal to mix and match factions within a list like that? I was under the impression all the models in a particular detachment had to have the same Faction Keyword.

I can, but I'd lose the special house rules for the entire group.

What I'm considering is having a battalion detatchment of stygies and a separate spearhead detachment from mars, which is totally legal.

Advice I've gotten locally is... "in a tournament, it's no-holds-barred... for a friendly game it would be a douchy move".

You indeed can mix and match within the same detachment, but you lose the forgeworld traits from both. IMO yes, screening units are much better as stygies. There is even good argument to put your crawlers as Stygies for the extra durability.
