I really liked the Terrain Kickstarter they did. This is hopefully cool too.

Their English seems to be rather off. It's not a dealbreaker so long as the miniatures are fine (none of that abysmal CMON or PP "Plastic"), but if the rules themselves are going to be difficult to read, it may be a problem.

Watched some videos on it, looks really cool. It’s Alien in all but name so I’d probably sub in some Xenomorph minis.

Yeah, i'm curious to see what some of the stretch goals will be like. I'm sure we'll see a not-power-loader.. maybe some not-predators too?

I’d like to see a not-The Thing (2nd favorite franchise after Alien) or maybe even some Event Horizon/Pandorum/Sphere type stuff.

Man those renders look good. Will these be resin like their terrain Kickstarter? I backed that and was pleased with the casts . No idea about the rules / etc here, though.

I've been following this one for a bit, but I'm getting impatient for my Lords of Hellas pledge from them that I paid extra to get shipped early.
From what I heard, their first board game project, This War of Mine, seems to have been met with a pretty good reception. Heck, Lords of Hellas too, even though it's taking them a while to get all those sundrop shading pledges out the door.
I'm wondering if they'll do another sundrop option for this campaign.
(Sundrop is what they call their dipping/ shading process for the bare plastic figures to give them a bit more texture, if you aren't familiar with it.)

I'm still waiting on my pledge for The Edge, but I know Awaken Realms is good people so I'm fine waiting. I think they are doing PVC plastic for their minis though, but what I've seen from the edge looks really nice, on par with recent CMON PVC minis boardgames. I was assuming the Nemsis minis were gonna be PVC.

The Edge is kind of in a weird spot, what with them refining and fine tuning the rules.
I'm still torn on whether I want to pick up a set for that. Not like I don't have enough games that never get played...

Yeah, I don't mind waiting if it means I'll have a better game in the end. I mostly went in for the minis though, but I have way too much to paint as it is...

Game looks pretty great. The female crew members cleavage is very tiresome though... image Ripley and Vasquez with tit windows. Doesn’t really fit the theme.

I can't remember ever seeing a battlefield surgeon with cleavage and high heels. But maybe I should get out more.
I backed This War Of Mine and sold it on a few days later. I could see it was pretty clever but it was kind of tiresome to play. And the minis looked like they were going to be OK, but were at best mediocre, on arrival, despite being described as "high quality miniatures". If the PVC minis hierarchy is CMON >> Monolith >> Bones >> boardgame pieces, these fit squarely in the fourth box.

What does this game have to do with IRL? They’re taking Alien and adding tit windows. Unnecessary and immature.

Well, to each their own. I just tire of the inevitable outrage when mild cleavage is shown on female miniatures. Just don’t use those minis or play the Scout, who is all covered up.

No outrage here, and I don’t think my posts convey anything of the sort either. I think it’s tiresome, immature, and unnecessary to put tits anywhere and everywhere for no particular reason, especially where it doesn’t fit the theme. Video games do it too, and it’s just as tiresome there.

Yeah, I'm not outraged, but as mymearan says, it's, well, all of those things mymearan said. I don't think I would have noticed the others, but the first image you see is the medic and her weird lateral suspenders blinds things, and how the high-contrast render exaggerates said window. And the captain would have been fine if the pic matched the illustration.

Dang. I've been reading about how some customers are unhappy with Awaken Realm's painting on their previous KS -- and AR is a painting studio. I thought, if anything, they'd put out some high quality miniatures with an okay game.
I'm fine with sexualized models when it comes to fantasy (including science fantasy) and superheroes (just don't make 'em look nekkid), but, with science fiction and historical fiction, I prefer uniforms and clothing based on their non-fictional equivalents.
Still, there was a time when science fiction meant scantily clad babes. Enjoy. : https://www.pinterest.com/pin/415246028118837317/?lp=true

Agreed. I mean I even own a couple of Raging Heroes minis, though I use them as Space Pirates rather than for hard SF gaming.
And yeah, I own several prints of pulp magazine covers, adorning the wall of the mezzanine library...

To provide an alternative viewpoint to Ian's, I would say my opinion of This War of Mine's minis is higher than his. They're actually quite good for boardgame pieces, but that is also exactly what This War of Mine is: a boardgame. The promo mini for Lords of Hellas that was included in my my copy of TWoM does appear to be of a better production quality, and the sundrop technique on it looks fairly decent.

Man, you really must HATE KDM then, lol
Let's face it, most of the gamers are men, men like boobs....do the math...sex sell stuff. It's enough just to look a bit around yourself and you will see that you are bombarded with it in this or that way.
I really don't have nothing against it, tbh. I don't really care about it, boobs or no boobs, it's the game I am after. But yea, 1st world problems, little plastic models&boobs, I mean, not even a nipple is shown, at least they could have given us 1 nipple xD

Unless they throw in some Civilians in casual dress, I am gonna agree with the 'boobs look out of place' crowd.
The setting looks far too cold for it to look natural.

I agree that the Lords of Hellas mini was a little better, actually! Forgot about that. And yeah, I think that "quite good for boardgame pieces" is fair, but that's quite far away from the "high quality miniatures" promised in the TWoM KS campaign.

I love KDM, in fact I own it. It's a great example of what I'm NOT talking about though. I'm not a huge fan of the KDM pinups, but they 1) exist outside the game, and 2) are specifically made as sexy parodies of in-game concepts. They also have both male and female ones. I never said I hate sex, or boobs, or models with boobs in general. I just hate it when they're shoehorned in where they don't belong, simply because, as you say, "sex sells". It honestly turns me off a game that otherwise looks pretty great.
