Anyway, I really wonder about the soldier's bowl helm and the scientist's canted wheels. Those are the minis I want out of this collection.

They are the most interesting models to my mind. Very surprised by the wheel chair mini to be honest, but I really appreciate it.
It is the first time I see such a model.

Mantic had a Dreadball coach in a hover chair. The mini was decent, but not easy to convert into anything else. I suppose one could use some wheels and a pilot mini to convert a wheelchair-bound mini, but it's nice to see the game creators include some real diversity in their characters.

The bowl helmet is just neat because it's so different from the usual sci fi helmet.

This is something I've wanted for a Loooooooooong time, but I'm a big fan of art from that era anyways. Juan Jimenez power armor would be awesome!

Sheesh, $732k right now. I didn't expect it to go that high that fast, don't think they did either.

it'd be cool if they could do something like a pledge level where you get 1 of every mini in resin at the end of the campaign or in the PM. Looks like they're all 3D prints so it shouldn't be too tough to do but they'd probably want to maximize the amount of game copies produced since the more you make the cheaper they cost.

The game looks like a lot of fun, and it's impressive the number of video reviews / etc they got ahead of time.

But in looking through their Lords of Hellas updates, I'm not convinced the human sized models will look high quality enough in their production plastic. Resin options for things like the soldier and wheelchair model would've been awesome, but probably aren't feasible given the quantity they might need.

So, I going to sit this one out... but I wish them a ton of success, they seem like a great group of people and are passionate about their products! And the items I got from their terrain Kickstarter (in resin) were fantastic

Those good points RiTides - someone should ask them about it.

Even in the Kickstarter Comments section - yikes! - if necessary...

Are there any companies whose pre-assembled boardgame plastic figures are that good? Gamer monkey hands need playing pieces that don't break, and, afaik, the better the plastic holds details, the more brittle it is.

Anyway, posting here that Nemesis broke through all their planned SG's. Given the maturity of KS, I'm surprised that this could happen, although AR was honest enough not to go to lie and make up fake SG funding levels to stretch the SG's over the campaign. For the new backers, if a creator runs out of planned SG's and offers more physical content, that's a yellow flag, because this can cause additional delays and increases in shipping costs. AR, thankfully, has said they're not going to throw out more mini's because the game has enough of them. Lime flag, I suppose.

CMON's human sized minis for games like Blood Rage (which my group plays a lot ) have gotten really impressive, although still not like resin, of course.

But for the slight loss of detail compared to resin, you gets Tons of them. Here, you're getting just a few characters, and a decent swarm of aliens... but for me, a lot of the component value depends on how those key characters come out.

I also think the terrain add-on is pretty pricey for what it is. The base game pledge looks great, though... even though I'm not backing I would very much like to play this game

Same here for me, knowing what I'd want these miniatures for and how I'd like to use them for hobby projects.

I looked into Lords of Hellas after RiTides' "warning" above and, yeah, I don't think I'll be backing this one...

Ah, good point. They've shown the free expansion, and it has 15 miniatures, so still not a ton. I guess hang around the Reaper KS forum and hope for an sf miniatures one to show up? Unfortunately, I'm not seeing many of them.

To add another comment about LoH, some BGG'ers were unhappy with the Sunburst (?) paint job. Seems like you'd have some complaints about it because they're all hand-done paint jobs, so there's more variability than with machine-made figures. I wouldn't want to be the last backer with their figures painted during overtime hours before a deadline. The painting, of course, will take extra time, so I'd assume painted sets would be shipped after unpainted ones.

To flog a dead *****, here's what Nemesis had to say about the Medic. So I guess when women are under combat stress, they don't wear t-shirts or bras. Anyway, at this point, I wouldn't want a creator to change the art direction of a project, including sculpts.

And finally Medic, that created so much controversy we did not really seen coming. We were a bit surprised, as by creating her we were by no means wanted taking sides in any political or social broader discussion. As mentioned on the beginning - we just wanted to make some very characteristic models and arts that will leave you a lot of space for your own interpretation.

We feel that female character who likes to dress sexy is this kind of characteristic crew member which can build a lot of stories around. As with other characters we did not wanted to give her only professional traits, but also that human part. Adding captain a cigar or scout a bottle of whisky does not mean that we are advocating for smoking or drinking. It is exactly the same in this case. We just want to create a very unique and different designs that you will be able to choose form and they will be very distinguishable from each other!

I saw some photos of sunburst miniatures and can see the quality issues mentioned. The variation in colour in the same factions models is extreme with some being twice as dark as others and some have very bad pooling issues of the shader.

Hopefully they have learnt from the first Sunburst models and can improve them for Nemesis.

Are they sundropping Nemesis?

Was it mentioned and I just glossed over it?

Fingers crossed my Lords of Hellas is in a decent batch, considering I'm still waiting on it despite paying for two stage shipping...

Last day night be interesting, looks like this and Hate are both ending on the same day. Which will have the bigger last day rush? I think Hate will have more activity since they will keep pumping out stretch goals forever, but this one is "done"

I'm kinda glad they stopped though and aren't going to add more and over-reach like a lot of campaigns do

Well the Carnomorph add on is yet to appear, plus they are making an Aftermath expansion, so not quite “done”.

Plus if Lords of Hellas is anything to go by, they are going to continue to throw all sorts of stuff into this.

They did a similar pattern last time around- unlocked an entire 5th player expansion with all sorts of additions, an expansion everyone voted on, a final expansion that was very much crowdsourced in terms of ideas and votes, plus a fair amount of interesting add ons that popped up as things went on.

It'll be interesting to see if they can top Kronos (both for size and game mechanics) this time around.

Dafuq? Did you not watch Prometheus? Where they immediately took off their helmets? And then the Xenobiologist decided to pet the angry space cobra?

Pretty sure that was the point he was making - the Alien franchise is no great paragon of realism.

In fairness, Prometheus exchanged the rule of cool for the rule of stupid, so using that film as an argument is a low blow. Valid, hard to counter, but low.

Prometheus was just a terrible film: when Scott tried to have his cake and eat it, he ended up with a movie that kept referencing ALIEN but then did a terrible job maintaining consistency. Even the weird old DH comics arc made more sense than that movie, and split less dramatically from the original movies.

Angry space cobra aside, the chance of alien viruses or bacteria being harmful to humans is virtually zero. Diseases and parasites evolve alongside their host species. You’re honestly more at risk from harmful bacteria visiting another country than you would be visiting another planet.

But i'd suspect a fairly high chance of something airborne that can generate a fatal allerigic reaction as the human immune system tends to need to learn what to ignore and there would be a lot of complex biological molecules it would have never seen on a new (living) world

Just because a movie is more stupid fiction than science fiction doesn't invalidate the principles of science fiction. In *any* sort of fiction, *consistency* is key, even if what happens in the story is made up. In BGG, I've seen arguments that just because it's fiction, you can do anything you want. An amusing counter-argument someone said is that, no, you can't -- Batman's sidekick Robin can't suddenly sprout wings and fly (unless it was one of those stories in the 50's, of course). So, for the cited movie, the *movie* violated the "external consistency" of wearing protective clothing in a foreign environment. That does not mean that the principle of "external consistency" does not exist. TvTropes has a succinct definition of consistency in a story. If you don't think much of TvTropes, you can find other essays about consistency in a story.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Consistency

There are, roughly speaking, three kinds of consistency that a viewer expects from a story:

External Consistency: Consistency with the real world. The fictional universe is Like Reality Unless Noted. Violations of external consistency are "unrealistic."

Genre Consistency: Consistency with other fictional works. The fictional universe should behave like other works in its genre, unless specifically noted otherwise. Any fictional concepts, characters, or settings borrowed from other works should behave as they do in those works. Tropes are Played Straight. For example, a dragon is generally expected to be a flying reptilian creature that breathes fire; if it's different in your work, the differences should be pointed out before they start affecting the plot.

Internal Consistency: Consistency with itself. Any rules, events, settings, or characters that have been established within the fictional work continue to exist and function as they did previously, unless otherwise indicated. If your work takes place in an Expanded Universe, you're generally expected to be consistent with the (non-expanded) Canon.

New character, the android. Also amusingly, while androids have been mostly portrayed in sf (or at least Western sf) as males or genderless beings, Japan's android, or at least robotic, *applied* technology is for females -- including a newscaster whose name implies a *youthful* age. Literally, her name is "child android". And, of course, the androids are in servant roles. Yeah, they know their market. At least the Japanese hotel has wacky animatronics for the kids.
