Aren't marines supposed to be towering men that are just plain huge? Around 9 - 10 feet tall?

Something like 8 feet, yeah. Why?

Over there... no, wait, AARGH!

I believe it's 7 foot tall... by the time the get in termi armour, it could be around 8. Yes, the models aren't exactly to scale when compared to IG...

Yeah, it would be nice if GW made models in proportion to what they are supposed to be--vehicles are so tiny...

I don't think making it scale would help the game at all. The vehicles would have to be much larger, and preds the size of baneblades wouldn't make for a fun (or affordable) game.

ED! Come on man, cost of manufacturing has NOTHING to do with the retail cost of GW products, I could manufacture 100,000 of any plastic sprue GW puts out for about $2000 in China including labor!

GW bases retail prices by the maxium amount of money the market will bear. Why do you think landspeeders are $45 (in Canada at least)

Sure, but you are not taking into account the shipping, sorting, individual packaging, warehousing, re-shipping, etc... GW hate is fine and dandy, but I think you're over-simplifying things a bit.

Because you Canadian suckers agree to pay $45 for said landspeeders?  j/k (well, about the Canadian bit anyway)

An additional difficulty is size drift.  The minis are generally growing in size.  The new Vostroyans are nearly a head taller than my old Valhallans.

if any body here works or worked for GW then they will know its dirt cheep to make the models. a metal termie actually only cost 30p or $0.50. plastics are even cheaper. if you looked a few years ago on the stock market GW stocks were worth so much cos they make so much profit, they overcharge by x10 and they pay there staff peanuts.

I doubt termie armour adds 1 foot to there heighht, more like 3, they are 7-8 ft without armour. they are slowly getting there with scale. look at the older ladraiders, they are about the size of rhinos. and tthe old SM from rogue trader days are smaller than the new vostruyens

I agree that shipping/warehousing cost money, and GW makes models in the UK (dumb in my oppinion) so the costs are much higher than if they were made in China, but if GW decided to double the size of every vehicle model the actual cost to them would not increase more than 5% so saying that the price would be way higher to have proper scale is wrong.

Space Marine height varies between authors, although the general consecus is that they are 3 meters or very nearly so in power armour, about a thrid of a meter taller in the old school Terminator armour, and up to 11 feet tall, or nearly 4 meters tall in the Aegis Terminator suits utilized by the Grey Knights and Custodians. Outside the armour, the Space Marine is about 7'6" to 8' tall, and weighs in at around half a metric ton give or take some. The 3rd Ed UltraMarines are modeled to represent 7 foot tall compared to the 3rd Ed Cadians 6 foot. This is because some of the modellers are very out of date on fluff.

Well, you guys just answered the part of my question I forgot to ask. Why the heck are my zombies the same height as my marines.

I wish they were scale. It would add alot to the asthetics of the game atleast.

Yea it would. I myself am slowly drifting from GW mini's because of it--I'm begining to look for another fantasy table top game, and already have started painting some reaper mini's.

Wow look at what I started... I don't really have that much of a problem with the scale, it was just a comment. As the pricing issue... of course GW overcharges. But hey, if your on this board then we've all been sucked into paying them our cash at one time or another...

i get stuff from ebay but here £18 for a tactical sqaud, on ebay for that price you get it delivered so it better but not much. you get some cheap stuff but its painted. which would be ok if the person selling it painted lightly so you could undercoat it and start again but it seem they just pour the paint straight out the pot onto the mini. its so thick the model loses its detail.

Marines have been known to be about 8' tall and 3' across the shoulders. Now you add terminator armor they then strech to 10' tall and about 4'6" to 5' across. It's awesome isn't? They're like volkswagons who got really pissed off stood up and started killing in the name of their God.

Orks are like those neighbor children who aren't invited to your parties and they come right in anyway.
