I just have a feeling of trepidation about this final season. Can it live up to expectations? Hmm...

At least we've got a date now!

Will it live up to expectations? Well, it's the final season of a beloved show. So I'm sure 'the internet' will profess to absolutely hate it, whilst those we speak to IRL will have thoroughly enjoyed it. I believe that is par for the course

Honestly don't care what happens in it. I am just glad it's ending. Ive watched it all along. Read the books. The upcoming books have taken way too long to come out. Im ready to tie off GoT and shelve it.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

My sole hope is that Queen Teflon, Cersei finally meets a just end.

When you think of what she's done and ultimately got away with, and how soft Joffer's exit was? She needs to pay!

While I cannot find in myself a single iota of compassion for her, she has had all of her children killed, and lost everything apart from her foolish pride.

she's dues paid in full.

also that's a 'happy ending' right there and if I've learned anything from the start to finish (Ned Stark -yay... whattheholyfuuuuu!!!) is that .. don't get my hopes up for a happy ending!

Yeah, but she caused the deaths of at least two. Joffrey by letting him be a spoiled little sociopath, and Tomin by, y'know, blowing up his wife. A wife he genuinely appeared to love.

Myrcella? OK. That is squarely on her Dad's shoulders. Revenge for his ordered brutality during the sacking of King's Landing.

The teaser was neat, but it’s been so long and with still months to go, I can’t work up any hype yet. I’ll definitely watch it when it finally airs, but right now I can’t be bothered to care.

Also, with all the hype the series generated over its run, I don’t think any ending will be “good enough”. It might not be bad, but it just won’t live up to expectations or be what everyone wants.

Well there's the rub.

There'll be some no doubt who get the ending hoped for - whatever that may be. Others will have guessed wrong. And then there'll be the Usual Toxic Minority that take great personal offence that it didn't conclude exactly as they expected, and never, ever, ever, ever shut up about it.

I binged all 7 previous seasons over the Xmas period so it's all nice and fresh in my mind and I'm really stoked for this.

I'd "prefer" to wait until the final episode's out and then binge Season 8, but probably fat chance of that...

Too high a risk of spoilers to attempt that one I'm afraid. I've a hard enough job dodging them from 5:30am (when my alarm goes off) and 9pm, when it actually airs. Because of course, we get it a day after the US.

Though perhaps Sky will be good enough to air it at midnight in a simulcast? That'd be nice.

No reason to think they won't, as they've been doing that for at least the most recent seasons.

I know Play will do it in Belgium. Not going to watch the simulcast tough, it's 2am in the morning if I'm not mistaken. Immediately available on demand tough.

I hope everyone dies and the Others conquer Westeros.

Season 7 was mediocre fan service from the opening scene and I fully expect 8 to be more of the same. I'm also greatly disappointed that they revealed the origin of the Others. It added nothing to the overall narrative as of yet and only cheapens the Others as an enemy.

I hope this show doesn't have a terrible and stupid ending, I hope the person who wins is literally the only one left standing. Not because of bravery or wit, but because they were like "Maybe i should keep my head down."

If they do so, then it would be awesome if that would be the LAST TRUE BARATHEON! (What am i kidding he is going to die)

Thing is GoT had a tendency to be unfair to its characters, kinda like real life. So don't be surprised if bad stuff happens to all your favorite characters up to and including death.

What does fan service mean in this context, exactly? Should they have tried to make the show less interesting to serve some weird point instead? Spend a few episodes following around Robin Arryn?

Some of the best scenes in the entire run of the show happened last season. The scene with Jon & co trying to snatch the wight, the undead bear, Euron's attack on the Martell fleet, the reveal with the Queen of Thorns, the mindblowing dragon convoy attack, the mindblowing dragon attack on the others, the way that shook out, the meeting of the royals, the fall of the wall... I mean, I don't knoww what more you want.

But perhaps this is the way we discuss stuff like this here now; after all, around here Heath Ledger was the 4th worst joker who only got an Oscar because he died. 2edgy4me

I suspect GRRM painted himself into a few too many corners and is waiting to see how the show ending is received to take his own cues about where to go forward, honestly.

No tags since it's been two years, but off the top of my head.

Arya wiping out all the major Frey's single handedly. It was a huge 'power' jump for her and instantly put her feats on par with the best Faceless Men, if not above. It was also a little bit too perfect of a comeuppance for the Freys. There was a similar issue in the previous season with the last minute cavalry appearing during the Battle of the Bastards, but that event was executed a bit better. I would have gone with her slitting his throat as a serving girl and then vanishing into the night as opposed to snuffing out the damn house.

Euron Greyjoy tracking down Daenyrs' fleet in the dead of night and waxing the much maligned Sand Snakes. A surprising number of people loved the killing, even though many also decried the plotting.

The entire capture the wight plot. It was extremely illogical and poorly thought out for several reasons. For one it involved sprinting across Westeros at ludicrous speeds to include Daenyrs' air assault rescue op. Secondly, it involves trusting Cersei who has repeatedly proven herself to be the least trustworthy character on the show outside of Littlefinger. Third the entire event ultimately comes across as just an excuse for the writers to hand the Night King a dragon. I'd call fanservice in that it was a big sexy action piece that featured a team up of fan favorite characters for no sensible reason.

The Arya-Brienne duel, even though it was fething awesome.

Boatsex. Which is a strange one. I'm not sure why it is so loved over on r/Freefolk or other corners. Nor why the writers (or George for that matter, if this is his plan) need Daenyrs to hump her nephew. You can add the Missandei-Grey Worm sex scene to that list. That was also odd.

Basically the show went from being about political intrigue to being a series of random acts of violence and magic perpetrated by heroic figures clothed in plot armor of immense power.

It's kinda funny, because if they hadn't gotten Iain Glen to play him, Ser Jorah would have been the biggest loser on the show. I too love him on the show, but he is pretty terrible in the books.
