Having not played AoS yet, which of these a better choice? I guess the former you're just fishing for mortal wounds?

Honestly, they both serve different roles.
If your General is a Loonboss on Giant Cave Squig/Mangler Squig, the Hoppers become Battleline, which is fantastic if you're sticking to a cave squig theme.
But looking at the stats, I think the Bounders are just better by far. Your average move is only going to be 3-3.5" less than the Hoppers, but you can do your Mortal Wounds after charging, rather than having to move/fly OVER a unit (which, if you're targeting big blocks, is going to be much harder to do than you'd think).
They also hit harder in combat, have Bravery 5 over 4, and a 4+ save vs a 6+ save.
That said, they are 2 ppm more than the Hoppers, but I think it's more than worth it.
Bottom line, for theme, I would probably take 3x5 Hoppers to fill the Battleline for the army, and then take lots of Bounders.

Yeah, I'd say Bounderz by and far are more versatile, especially since the Hopperz need you to go over a unit, which at that point you may as well be in combat via charging rather than making a difficult move (which opponents can also counter fairly easily by castling).

if you want a flanking objective grabbing unit i guess hoppers has it use, but for straight out charge`n`damage, bounderz is way better even if they cost a bit more.
just use normal squigs for your battleline, they too have their use, even if they are slow.

Hoppers are not at all bad, but bounderz are one of the few units in Gloomspite that are a bit too good for their cost.

I've now seen a game with bounderz, and too good for their cost is very accurate. They aren't as bad as evocators but they pop out as being highly point efficient for the damage that they can do. Running the numbers on my own database for their average damage and durability and speed they place roughly 14% above the acceptable bell curve in points cost (meaning that they need to be brought up in points 14% to put them back into the same range as the other units that do similar damage and durability and speed).

Yeah I'd agree 14% too good is about right. 110-120 points would be perfect.

I have 70pts left in my 500pts slow grow starter force. (2x20 stabbas, loonbas, 5 bounders). Add a squig herd minimal unit, or some sneaky snufflers to juice up the bounders?

Snufflers. Good with the loonboss CA too.
