I wasn't expecting N5 anytime soon, but the new editions have never been fundamental shakeups. N2 to N3 was the largest, N4 was mostly just cleanup, sounds like N5 will be more of the same.

I haven't followed the story changes at all, sounds like a lot happened in setting. JSA becoming a full faction with it's own sectorial on a new planet sounds interesting, and I'm looking forward to new PanO that aren't Svalarheima. Please, no more fur lined coats or snow goggles.

I think I'm personally more curious to see if they make their entry level version of the game more accessible and an easy read for those not fluent in neotechnospanglish.

Infinity is a game of the oral tradition. It's easier taught than learned.

I expected, PanO vs Haqq. JSA definitely comes as a surprise.

I really like every model in the box, which hasn’t actually happened for quite a while with the bigger Infinity boxes.

I wanted to comment on this:

Bostria showing off his custom Stanley Cup® tumbler. So far N5 sounds pretty good. The starter minis look very good. CB definitely bringing their A-game.

I have to say, even by their own standards, CB have knocked it out of the park with those starter set minis. Absolutely stunning.

Unless you've been living under a rock these recent days (...and many of you should admit you exist too much in a 40k bubble), well...
CB is unironically slapping with their N5 announcements.

Like this:

ACHILLES HAS GONE ROGUE AND HE IS EVIL NOW!!

Pandora has seduced him into the Combined Army.

This reminds me of the NBA draft or something

Apart from this, the generic factions will have limited army lists in N5 instead of having access to all and many sectorial armies are going to be discontinued.

I am REALLY happy to hear this. Having so many various, but essentially separate, forces under each faction certainly hindered me exploring any further than the two starter sets I have. I am very keen to give N5 a fair shake.

Whelp this prompted me to add to my box of metal and do my semi-annual "what models are CB retiring/Have retired that I want to grab" check.

Picked up a pack of Unidron Batroids, Fraacta Drop Unit and Infinity Dire Foes Mission Pack 5.

Granted none of those models are retired from the game and most have replacements, but there's some weapon options that aren't carried over into the new and the older sculpts are still great looking.

Still missed a bunch of the previous morat designs, but I'm not focusing on them quite as much

I was pretty upset at the Achilles transplant, but if I am being honest, I have not fielded him once in N4, Eudoros does his job just as well and cheaper, and his not-Brad sculpt put me off painting him.
In other words, it makes no sense for me to continue being upset at this.

I am however pretty excited about Vanilla lists gaining a semblance of identity again beyond being a wild hodgepodge of every unit ever released. It made sense back when armies had 20 units total, and had strict weaknesses and strenghts, but that hasn't been the case in years.

Not forgetting that not only are the armies bigger, but each model/unit type might have a whole range of weapon options in the stats. Even if there's only one model with one weapon, the game has multiple options.

So you've big unit rosters coupled to a lot of variable profiles within them. That's not just a lot to balance its also a bit of choice paralysis where a player can very easily get lost in the mechanics of the game.

I can see value in splintering things up a bit. Plus it gives you creative growth room. Now you don't have all the toys of the faction to play with, now you can have your own design for a specific function.
