If you kinda want a giant monster movie that isn't too silly and has some serious overtones, you should check out the daimajin trilogy.
These movies, the first being released in America as "Maijjn, monster of terror", are very unusual giant monster movies in that the title character technically isn't a monster, he's a god of old japan. He's "only" like maybe king king sized, say around 50 feet which make it possible to build props of part f him that were interacting with the live actors making some scenes very convincing.
There were 3 movies, each with a similar plot. Generally peaceful japanese village is attacked and taken over by evil warlord, the people are enslaved and treated horribly but have faith their god, A 50 or so foot tall samurai statue names majin, will come to their aid. Evil warlord decided to break people's faith by destroying the statue, majin gets P.O., put on angry demon face and proceeds to mete out divine justice on evil warlord and his army.
In some ways majin's smaller size relative to most kaiju, tens of feet rather than hundreds, works to make him
more frightening as he's still a huge, unstoppable force yet he's must closer in scale to humans, making the idea that he's after one person, personally more relatable. He's not this impersonal force of nature like godzilla, he's after specific people, beyond just smashing their armies and fortresses. Also the scale makes it easier to make him look more real in relation to human actors.
Here's a clip from the american release of the first majin movie.

Here's another one in japanese.

The way the soldiers massed to attack maijin looked just believable given his size, and the way he occasionally paused to glare at them, like "Are you

ing kidding?" made the interaction between human and 'giant monster' more effective than most similar movies.
I think one maijin movie was not shown in america as a child in it commits suicide as an offering to maijin to convince him to save their village from the evil warlord, and is later brought back to live by maijin. Apparently some censor thought it might get some american kid to try the same thing.
If you've never seen these they're worth trying during your covid quarantine.
