I'm currently planning to start a 30k army. I already have the Betrayal at Calth set, Angron, Horus, and 30k Abaddon. I have the new box set, and a special weapons box pre-ordered. I should lean into Sons of Horus or World Eaters, but SoH just seem kinda blah and World Eaters seem like a long and expensive build. So I'm looking at possibly Alpha Legion(have them in 40k) or Night Lords. The problem with Alpha Legion is that since I play them in 40k, I tend to drift to different color schemes when starting new armies even though I could still use some for 40k. Night Lords, my concern is if their rules are actually going to do anything. I don't plan on playing much, if at all, but if I do play I'd rather have a force that isn't gimped. Any thoughts?

Paint a colour scheme which you like and don“t worry about any rules. Also take into consideration that HH is NOT a historical game. This means you can paint your dudes in variations of a particular scheme as laid out in the HH books.

I will be choosing a black metallic scheme for my IH rather than the traditional black because my 40K SM army already is painted black. You could for instance choose for your AL either a blue, green, turquoise or even purple scheme.

Personally I'm waiting until we know more about other upcoming plastics before I commit to anything.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

World eaters are definitely a bit tricky without access to a 3d printer for the custom bits you need to convert mark iv/vi easily at the moment.

Otherwise, you can get various bits like chainaxes from 3rd parties, and truescale bodies from tortuga bay, and fudge melee arms, but for full kits of despoilers, assault squads and destroyers out the box it's still forgeworld resin which will definitely get expensive fast.

When we see heresy variants of these in plastic (hopefully sooner rather than later!) it should be a very different matter though.

The mark iv and vi are pefectly viable though as WE tac squads with chain bayonets (and look gooooood), you've got the special weapon squad(s) for some firepower, or veteran squads, and melee cataphractii in the spartan (and maybe angron!). So you've got a solid core there you could add on the more mobile squads to afterwards, which may well be out by then, depending upon how quick you can paint the rest of the troops.

Just magnetise the contemptor arms so you can add a powerfist/chainfist later when they bring back more arms....

But ultimately, a legion you a) want to paint and b) like the fluff of is the most important thing, as it's the only way to really stick to the project.

Personally, sending a wave of frothing maniacs straight in to to murder anything they can lay a chainaxe to is something I've been wanting to do for years, so heresy 2.0 is just my excuse to get started!

Yeah I honestly wouldn't worry too much about Legion rules yet. Pick a legion you like for whatever reasons and go hard.

Some things to consider when choosing your Legion,
-Colour of the armour. Want a challenge? Paint Fists or Scars. Painting not your strong point or don't have the time? Ultramarines or any of the black armies are a good choice.
-Aesthetics. Like World Eaters bunny ears? Renaissance feel of the Blood Angels? Gasmasks and chemical weapons your thing? Deathguard. Have a hazard stripe fetish? Iron Warriors got you covered.
-General playstyle (Broader rules rather then specific legion rules) You can pretty much make any legion fit a style of warfare, although some do lend themselves better to particular styles.
-Does a particular BL character or story resonate with you? Recreate that particular force as best you can.

There are endless options for crafting your own legion.
Also keep in mind, that if you don't want marines you have Mechanicum (good and evil), Knights, Custodes, Imperial Army/Cults, and Daemons of the Ruinstorm.

I wouldn't go that far, but I would the make the effort

As for personal strategy, I can play anything really and be happy.

I think I'm leaning towards Alpha Legion. If I like another legion's special unit I can steal it lol. I may just try and sell my Horus and Abaddon to try and get Alpharius and Armillus Dynat. Though I'll wait until I get the books this weekend. Who knows, maybe if some friends pick up HH I may start another legion. Now I just need to figure out why my Akhelian Green always comes out blue

not sure I'd call black super each as it's tricky to shade and highlight.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Cos it's a blue paint with only a little hint of green? I think 'aqua' is the artist shade. While terradon turquoise is more towards the green side. The new kroxigor scales could also be worth a look.

Everything I had seen mentioned Akhelian Green and they definitely look better than the results I got. I thought I just wasn't thinning it down enough. Lol
