Hello all.

It is now 2024. Welcome to the future.

With that said, I recommend that all wargamers create some goals for the year. These help me from going off the rails and getting buried under a pile of shame. Therefore, I typically break it out into a few categories to keep me on task.

You can read the details here if you wish:
https://bloodandspectacles.blogspot.com/2024/01/random-2024-is-upon-us-what-is-to-be.html

Here are some highlights:

Purchase:
- Stay caught up with the Osprey Wargaming Series of Books
- Get 1 more Kill Team
- Maybe start-up a new Naval game

Painting:
- Finish my 6mm Hittites
- Paint up my Heroquest boxed set

Gaming:
- Keep on playing Kill Team

Writing:
- Get my Assyrian themed game done this year

So, what are you hoping to get done in 2024?

Keep on my 365 day “do something hobby” streak.

Day 2 so far, and I’ve been doing further prep work on my Legion Imperialis Sprues for spraying.

Can’t find my blutak though, so about to wander down t’shop. Once I’m back? Get the spray out and base coat, base coat, base coat.

That will be my minimum for “done something hobby”. I may do further painting today, or leave that until tomorrow.

OK, goals for 2024:

Purchases -
* Complete my Stargrave library (local shop hasn't had the two books prior to the new one focusing on crew ships available for a long time - will need to create an order for me personally)
* Buy the tufts I need to complete my BTech AS mini bases

Painting -
* Keep painting Cawdor (about 40 minis! I got lucky with a gift of sprues from a friends hobby-project.)
* Get back to painting my Admech
* Get my current Battletech minis finished (about a dozen are ready for final highlights and detail)
* Prime my 15mm Great War French and Germans
* Prime and paint my newest GW Knight models
* Paint my fantasy minis

Construction -
* turn some saved packaging into SciFi terrain
* turn some poster-board into Fantasy huts

Gaming -
* More BTech, Stargrave, OPR Grimdark Future, 40K, get started with Forbidden Psalm

That should keep me busy!

Purchases -
*I want some retro-themed robots to round out my Sci Fi and Apocalyptic stuff. I think the Ro Tek ones from Dreadball look perfect for what I want, but I am trying to find someone who sells them in Germany so I don't have to deal with Brexit shipping nonsense. If anyone knows an alternative or a source for these guys in the EU let me know!

Aside from that, I don't think I should be buying too much more stuff. I might pick up the odd D&D mini here or there, or a box of North Star plastics if the local shop has something nice.

Painting -
*I want to finish my fix up on my LOTR Moria and Mordor, and hopefully get my Rohan and Arnor done. That seems like a reasonable goal! Also have a pair of Schleich dragons and a big wolf I want to paint up as First Age monsters.
*For 40K, I'd like to get some Stargrave Crew finished, and do my Tyranid army which is fully assembled. Also want to get some Demons done, and if I get them assembled, some Mantic Plague as mutants.

Construction -
* Assemble my Mantic Plague and Stargrave Scavengers, and maybe have a go at assembling my Tau.
* I bought a bunch of electrical gang boxes with the intent to make some Sci Fi buildings, would like to see that through.
* I have a plan for modular ruined or stone buildings made from card and foam. Really want to get it done this year, it'd be a huge boost to my fantasy terrain.
* Similarly, want to get some boulders and bushes done to round out my fantasy terrain, and have a plan for magnetised hills/barrows/hobbit holes too. We'll see how far along I get.
*Also got some bits and bobs to make some triangular saxon style huts, just need to get it done!

Gaming -
* Play some more LOTR - maybe get some Arnor vs Moria games in, do a battle of Rangers vs Trolls to play out the narrative of Arathorn's death. Maybe do a siege with my Ringfort terrain.
* Play some OPR Grimdark Future 2.0 (don't like the newest versions). Maybe just a few casual games but I'd really like do do a "siege of terra" gaming day with my friend where we use my modular walls.
* Get back to playing some D&D maybe. It's been on hold because a regular weekly 3 hour commitment is a bit tough atm!

Definitely looking for less this year, but probably end up with more than I mean to out of necessity. I need to build a more robust 40k collection and that's going to take some models. Mostly though I'm hoping I can just paint a few MCP/Shatterpoint minis every month and focus on terrain for a while.

Painting

Per the year in review I've unfortunately got a bit of a backlog again. My immediate focus is painting some new MCP and Judgement releases, but I also need to finish up my Ork army and see how it survives the errata.

I really want to get down last year's excess pile again. I've got 3 little piles of Infinity, Warmachine and 40k that each are going to take some focus to churn through. Hopefully I can buckle down and start churning through them soon, though I fear errata is going to throw everything up in the air before I find my footing.

Also really hoping to design some cool new tables. Having a vareity of terrain really keeps games fresh and I'm finding it a rewarding break from models. Actually starting off the year with a mystic crisis table for MCP.

Gaming

As for games, I think MCP and Shatterpoint will be the focus for a while with private games of Warmachine and Judgement on the side. I really need to put more time into 40k, but I just find it hard to make pick up games happen regularly and my personal community building interests lie elsewhere. Mostly 2023 felt like it was about survival after our shop closed and I think 2024 is going to be about developing a stable new community going forward.

Going to keep my '24 goals simple and achievable, as it worked reasonably well for me last year.

- Play a minimum of 1 game a month. Between Heresy, LotR and Fantasy, shouldn't have too much issue finding an opponent.
- Paint at least 10 minis a month. The end goal is to have a 3k army painted for Heresy, a 2k army painted for fantasy and whatever I can get done for Middle-earth. I'd also really like to paint another bust this year If I get the chance.

- Additionally, I'd like to be a bit more sensible about how I spend my hobby budget. Not cut back spending as such but just be a bit more selective about what I buy. Buying things I need for an army rather then just whatever catches my eye as has been happening.

I hope to complete the collecting phase of my IXth army this year. I'm missing a couple metal Scouts, command squad, DC and some flyers.

Also going to start playing AT, but taking it slow. First order of business regarding AT is to create some sort of app for hustling the Command Terminals with my iSlate, as I dont fancy the idea of needing a side board for all that bookkeeping midgame. was thinking of doing it with Swift, since I can use the Slate both for development and testing if I keep it all in Swift. Heck, if the app turns out half decent, I can make a fork without REDACTED gfx and put it on the App Store for others to use as well?

As for LI, still waiting for more content before starting with it. AT will keep me busy in the meantime.

In the KT21 dept, taking things slow, waiting for 2nd edition to drop in Q3/Q4. Not going to invest in Season 3 unless some unmissable team happens to drop. Got plenty of teams as it is, most of them still on their sprues no less (Arbites, Navy Breachers, Beastmen, Gellerpox, Startstriders, Chaos Cult, Inquisition..)

In the 40K dept, I'm still some ways off from starting with 2nd Edition. Dark Millennium costs an arm and a leg on ebay! Plus I need to dump those 2nd ed box minis somewhere.. time to bump my classified ad I suppose

The main goal is to "finish" my Napoleonics project.

I was hoping to complete both Russian and French sides for General d'Armee's Weissenfels scenario in 2023. I completed the Russians, but having picked up and moved halfway through the year completely screwed up my hobby time.

I'm looking to finish the French and terrain for the scenario this year, and it'll be a bonus to complete a Prussian division for Lutzen, since the same French forces from Weissenfels can be used with the addition of just two more battalions.

Other goals:

Sell all my extraneous stuff

Keep my hobby spending under the limit I've set (a starting number plus whatever I can add from selling)

Get into Quar (15mm and 28mm)

Create an Epic Ork Warhorde army

If Midgard gets released, work on 3mm Orcs, Goblins, and Empire.

Keep from starting any other system, really

Purchase:
1. Tomb Kings (and appropriate terrain for a scenic display).

Build:
1. Aforementioned Tomb Kings and terrain
2. A few MESBG dioramas/displays I've had the minis for for a while but haven't had the time to do.

Paint:
1. Aforementioned Tomb Kings and terrain
2. Finish the 3-4 kill teams I've got half done
3. Aforementioned MESBG dioramas
4. Paint the butt load of Kill Team terrain I have
5. Finish all the D&D minis I've started but not finished (hopefully before those campaigns end!)

Other:
1. Do something with my Orks. I've been on a converting and building rampage with them for so long that I have completely lost the desire to put any paint on them at all. I love building them and converting them but the thought of having to paint them all just seems insurmountable. Hopefully it's just burnout and some time away from them to do my Tomb Kings and all the other painting bits will rekindle my Ork painting desire.

2. Tackle my two huge drawers of abandoned projects (most of them Ork as well ), whether I finish them, repurpose them or break them down back into conversion material.

Just to paint as much as I can. I'd really like to get back to my SoH, but since embracing speed paints in a big way, the idea of painting properly again isn't exactly enticing.

Good thread idea, thanks!

So as some of you know I work overseas and this (by which I mean last, yes I will be writing 2023 for some time) relocated from Cairo to Hyderabad. My sea shipment of STUFF is due to finally catch up with us next week so that will be a lot of time unpacking and sorting.

Goal for 2024

Build my 'Brothers of Law' Adeptus Arbites army
Find or create a table top gaming community in Hyderabad/India, just like my good buddy in Cairo was doing (internet rules and 3d printing) already started a Facebook group if you happen to know anyone interested in India
