How do!

More of a proper nerd thing than 40K specific, given science still likes its Latin names for, well, naming stuff.

Because when it comes to what feels like an inevitable Titan collection, I want to name them after songs, translated into Latin/High Gothic.

For instance, Daddy Cool would be a fun one. Slice of superior Disco married to the most goth thing I think we’ll ever see, a walking gothic cathedral.

Google Translate can translate from English to Latin. For example Daddy Cool is Tata Frigus (according to Google).

That's all I've got, never studied Latin myself.

Fair!

Doesn’t feel right to me. Father should be something like Frater or similar?

Pater is Father in latin.

C'mon Doc, surely you should know Frater is brother in latin!

Google is probably good enough for what you're doing, but you just need to think about what you're asking it to translate - particularly if its stuff like the song title you mentioned. Pater is father, but tata is effectively equivalent to 'daddy' in latin - as a less formal name, usually used by children. Similarly, if you put cool in, my guess would be you'll get a translation with a meaning based on cool as a temperature, so you'd probably want to come up with some alternatives with the right contextual meaning to translate.

So just think how literal you want the translation to be, or whether to use more formal/less colloquial words with the same meaning, for the purposes of the translation - if that makes sense?

You can probably play around with a bunch of roughly equivalent alternatives and see what it throws out as a latin translation, then just decide which latin word works best / sounds coolest.

I love this

I too have had some fun with Latin titan names, as don't think you should take this sort of thing too seriously. The Warlord Pugnus Mortis (for Bruce Lee fans) and Castigator Rex are my two, of the most heavy metal of Titan Legions, Metalica

Yeah, Google Translate is a good first step for getting the idea through, but checking with Latin users or forums might help refining it. For what it's worth, I used historical Latin phrases to riff up the names of my titan legio Favilla.

Iudex Ultionis - Judge of Vengeance (Warlord)
Memento Mori - Reminder of Mortality (Warlord)
Delictor Profectuum - Eraser of Deeds (Warlord)
Excidium Ultimum - Ultimate Ruin (Warmaster)
Aetheris-Anathema - Voidborn Horror (Psi-Titan)
Contemptus Mundi - Disdain for the World (Warbringer)
Flagellum Dei - Scourge of God (Reaver)
Ruina Superborum - Nobles' Bane (Reaver)
Aurora Terribilis - Dreadful Dawn (Reaver)
Damnatio Memoriae - Leaves No Trace (Reaver)
Edax Rerum - [like time] Devours All (Warhound)
Occisor Spesi - Murderer of Hope (Warhound)
Echo Dolorum - Echo of Calamities (Warhound)
Cineres Immensis - Vast Ashes (Warhound)
Flammae Aeternae - Eternal Flames (Warhound)
Quies Interimus - Serenity of Desolation (Warhound)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Though "cool" isn't exactly a concept that directly existed in antiquity, you could perhaps use "lepidus" as witty, charming, lovable or "urbanus" as a refined, slick person. Both are kinda funny. Pater Lepidus would be colloquial enough.

Mirabilis and such for a more amazing quality, but that's maybe a bit off the mark.

Peple who will see your model probably don't know Latin either, so you can invent something that sounds Latin and cool - for example "daddy cool" may be "Pater refrigeratus"
