Hi! Im brand new to heresy, and wondering if 8ts possible to make a list with no infantry? Pure vehicles/walkers/etc? If so, how small can you legally do so? I'd like to avoid being "that guy" if skew lists are frowned upon, but I really want to do a no-infantey list.

Thanks!

The only way to do it in Marines is a March Of The Ancients Rite Of War.
That lets you do all Dreadnoughts, all the time.

Dreadnoughts are generally considered overtuned. So... You know, maybe not the best option to do with a casual group.

Yeah as JNA said, if you want to run only Dreadnoughts, then you can run a Fury of the Ancients Rite of War. But you won't win yourself any friends.

If you want to run a Tank heavy list you can use Armoured Spearhead Rite of War. This lets you take Predators as troops choices and Sicarans as Elites. However since they don't count the predators as compulsory troops choices, you will still need to have a minimum of two tactical/despoiler/etc squads to fill those compulsory slots. The RoW does however require them to be mounted in rhinos. So if you choose never to disembark those squads, you can pretend they're not there!

Also - I don't think a list that was almost all vehicles would attract much ire. Most opponents won't find them that difficult to kill. HH has inherited the issue that vehicles have had since 3rd Edition WH40k, which is that they don't tend to do enough damage relative to their points, and are very vulnerable to certain kinds of weapons. But I still prefer the HH approach to what vehicles have become in 10th Edition WH40k.

...Do they not count the Predators as compulsory Troops? The copy of the book I'm looking at says that they're "Troops choices", nothing about them being non-compulsory or gaining Support Squad?

Sky-Hunter Phalanx (jetbikes and Land Speeders in Troops) is another infantry-less generic option, Dark Angels, White Scars, and Night Lords all have a cavalry Rite allowing bikes or jetbikes in Troops, and Dark Angels also have an Armoured Spearhead variant that allows Kratoses in Elites.

Outside of SM both Knights and Mechanicum are...actually kind of less cheese than Fury of the Ancients; Castellax and Armigers are similar in size and capability to Contemptors, but they've only got 3+ armor, which makes them a lot easier to deal with. Solar Auxilia can get close with an Armored Fist Cohort (Leman Russes as non-compulsory Troops), but you do still need twenty mechanized infantrymen for the compulsory slots.

Though do keep in mind that skipping infantry sometimes means you skip the Line sub-type, and then you've got a hard time scoring objectives in some missions.

I was going to say, no they don't count as it doesn't explicitly specify compulsory, but having just gone back and looked over the RoW's again, I think I'm going to have to change my stance on that.
Only the Recon Company and Brethren of Iron specifically mention certain troops being non-compulsory. And furthermore Pride of the Legion states that vets and termies taken as compulsory count as line. So I suppose if it doesn't specify one way or the other then you're free to do as you will.

Which I guess means you can take Predators as compulsory troops, they just don't get Line. It's nice to be wrong sometimes.
